Good morning Calvin and Marie. My husband and I were raised up learning to keep our pantry supplied. Both our parents grew up in The Great Depression so they learned at a very young age that things can go sideways in a heartbeat. It’s always better to be ready for an emergency than to be unprepared. I hope you both have a great week this week. God bless you both.

3 cheers for us 70 +'s who are still enjoying our biscuits, cornbread and taters in moderation. 😊 Thanks Marie & Calvin for your wonderful videos. Many of your recipes are now regulars in our kitchen. (Your latest cabbage, potatoes and bacon is a HUGE hit. I'm wondering why I never thought of adding the taters before.) May God Bless you both, and all who have been blessed to find your wonderful channel. 😇💓

I will only say that what drew me to this channel is that you seem like ordinary folks trying to live ordinary lives as decently, frugally and joyfully as possible. We're all just neighbors with our own strengths and weaknesses. On a side note, am praying that Kim and family don't lose their Gus. That's a hard loss. Enjoy your Sunday ❤

Blessings to you both! You both spread kindness and goodness in a dark time. That makes you a target for the dark side and the dark side uses people to try to hinder and distract us from accomplishing good! Keep up the good work. I pray that those who attack will see the love that you respond with and their hearts will be healed in Jesus name! Such a timely reminder to us all about not judging. Being seniors on a fixed income especially these days we buy what we can afford. I use canned vegetables all the time. I also use some frozen and some fresh. It's a balance. I've been trying to lose weight all my life and am constantly learning what's good and what's bad for us. Fairly recently I learned that seed oils are horrible for us . I buy olive oil but I can't afford to use avacado oil so I also use vegetable oil and canola oil. It's not good for us but you do what you have to do. Yall just keep on doing what you're doing! I love having great people like yall to watch and get good recipes from. ❤❤

We appreciate you talking about being prepared. Many people don’t think ahead until someone mentions it. There are so many reasons why we might not be able to get our groceries… And especially with people being laid off of jobs lately. It’s such a blessing to have, those canned goods on the shelf. In all these storms that have put electricity out, it’s a blessing to have food that’s not requiring refrigeration. Thank you for sharing with us how to be prepared.🦋

When covid hit, I turned our office room to a pantry. I bought canned veggies, meat, and fish. I dont usually eat this way, but bought for emergency reasons. Now, 3 years later, im trying to incorporate these items into my meal planning, so they dont go to far beyond the best by date. I hate throwing food away, as I always thank God for his Blessings. God has children in poor countries who eat only rice and beans every single day, and yet they live and appreciate what they have. Our life and health is God ordained. We always strive for righteous living, but it is God who knows our story from beginning to end. So as we strive to do our best in his strength, we must remain in his Blessings, grace, joy and peace in which we were also instructed to do. God Bless you both ❤~~~

Since we've got older we don't prep as deep as we used to. At one time we strived to keep a two year supply of food and it did take care of us during a nine month period back in 2013. Like I said we have cut back some now, but if you have items that are getting close to the date you can consider donating them to either a food bank or a homeless shelter. There is plenty of people in need that can use them. We are currently trying to maintain about a nine month supply but we still need to donate some of it sometimes.

You should never have to explain to anyone why you eat what you do. As long as you are happy and your food makes you feel good, eat what you want. I have seen so many people who don't have a lot of choices to choose from. They may not be able to afford why society thinks we should eat. I have also seen plenty of overweight doctors. If our choices don't harmfully affect anyone, we should keep quiet about what others do. You two are so refreshing to watch. I love the love that you have for each other.

Good morning Calvin and Marie. My husband and I are your age. We have a home almost exactly as yours, and we have turned one of the bedrooms into a pantry. We have filled it with shelf stable foods of all kinds. Just like you, some people think we have gone over the edge by doing this. We also have 4 freezers, we grow a garden for our fresh vegetables. I dehydrate things that I have in abundance. If things should go downhill and we lost access to a grocery store, we have enough to take care of our grown children and grandchildren to see us through the hard times. If people think that hard times can't happen nowadays, then we would help them too. Look at all the tornadoes that have wiped out an entire town. They don't even have water or electricity. Our walk in pantry room is what's going to save us. And yes, Calvin, don't forget to have alittle cash of ALL denominations, including coins on hand. My husband and I have it labeled as emergency $$. My husband and I have been married for 52 years and we have lived through "lean" times, and we have learned to buy only what we can pay for and save money where we can. I would say that it has paid off. Pay no attention to to those people who question your ways. They will be the people who need help should things go downhill. Thank you. Until next week.

That's a great devotional. It is so true. Don't judge because you can be doing the same thing or something same or worse. My grandfather always said "Once you walked in my moccasins then you can judge." You haven't walked the life of others so don't judge. I grew up with just a dad raising 4 kids. He always had food stocked for us. He taught me to keep a 20 dollar bill in my wallet just in case I needed gas or whatever. Great video. Some people are just rude! Our son moved from California to Georgia a few years ago. California is very warm and the air is a dry hot.. the first time we went to Georgia to visit him he explained that he can't store bread very well in Georgia because the air is so damp. It is easier to store food items like bread in California because our humidity level is so low (very dry - like 44% in the summer). In places like Georgia, the humidity is very high (more than 60%) & bread just doesn't keep well so people eat more biscuits they can make up a small batch and enjoy them but they don't have to worry the humidity because they'll just make a new batch the next time they're going to have an egg sandwich or something like that. I find it's really interesting the different ways that people have to work around the humidity. Calvin and Marie you're doing a great job and you're very creative and very kind to share your recipes. 😊We have made many of your recipes our - go to recipes. I think one thing that people may need to understand is once you get over 60 years - sometimes you want quick and easy recipes. Marie, I love your devotionals and I love how you talk directly to us - and and share the gospel. 🌺 I really love that blouse that you were wearing today, it's very pretty with the beautiful tropical hibiscus flowers. I shared your thought on Facebook today, "to each their own" because I am a firm believer of individualism. I am certain that there's a lot of people that would object to the way that I think and things that I do but I don't worry about that.... I like being unique. For example I grow my own vegetables and I have my own chickens for eggs. I like to buy items that are made in the USA and I went through all of my dishes and silverware and gave everything away that was made in China... Some people might frown upon that, but I don't care. I am very proud to be an American, so I have a tall flagpole and I fly the American flag every day. You are both doing a great job just keep up the good work. Also I wanted to touch bases that I have at least 3 months food supply.... It is important to have emergency supplies of food or just an abundance of food so if you need something you don't have to keep running to the store and you can just go out to the cupboard and get that can of mushrooms or whatever you need without having to get in the car and drive all the way across town to go to the store. I highly recommend that everybody have a few shelves of food for an emergency. Canned foods are very important but it's a good idea to have an extra freezer full of frozen meats and vegetables on hand. Many churches encourage members to have food storage of at least a few months here is a link for more information about emergency food storage.... www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/emergency-preparedness/01-food-and-water-storage/01-preparing-emergency-food-storage?lang=eng

I don’t understand how others don’t see the reason behind prepping. It’s not extreme, but we all need to be prepared for anything. I would think given the “pandemic” everyone would understand. Y’all keep doing what you’re doing, I appreciate your insight and ideas!

It’s got to be hard putting yourself out on social media because there are ppl out there who have to comment on everything. I appreciate you sharing and the sweet spirit it’s done in. I fixed the bacon, fried cabbage and potatoes yesterday. I kept the bacon separate and added corned beef toward the end. I then used the bacon with lettuce and tomato slices. It was delicious. Thank you for doing the recipe. It was a hit here. I used 1 bag of the coleslaw mix and 4 medium potatoes. It was plenty for 4 people. Thank you Calvin and Marie. Yes!! We have fire ants everywhere! As far as prepping, that just makes good sense! We prep, not dooms day but in case of an emergency. We live in eastern NC and have flooded many times. I can everything especially when there are specials on meats. We have a garden and I can all my vegetables. So if someone comments negatively they could be the ones in great need when something tragic happens! So prep on!! Love you guys❤️

I just came across your channel quite by chance today. This is my 3rd of your videos I'm watching & plan on watching many, many more. I'll be 62 come June but was forced to retire 10 yrs ago due to multiple disabilities & my husband also due to a drunk driver hitting him. So we are on limited resources too but have become somewhat of preppers also. My parents grew up in the depression so I heard all my life of difficult times esp requarding precious food. Also, growing up in CA always need to be prepared for earthquakes & where I live now there was a wild fire that with us being prepared (yes! Canned goods!) we were ok! And in our case electricity was out for over a month.. we have a generator so could turn on to cook but not for refrigerated foods as its run on gas. So yay to canned goods for storage & survival!!

Thanks very much Teresa. Yes the can goods saved us back in 2013. We lived off of them for 9 months. It was a good thing that we had a good supply put back. We never know what or when the next emergency is going to happen to us.

Well it is sad that people out there only feel the need to be rude or say nasty things to others, like you said Marie and Calvin, they don't know you two! You both are so kind and sweet! I am new to your channel and love many of your easy delicious meals and desserts! I know you two don't expect your audience to love everything for certain reasons one might have, but we all have individual choices to make of our own and we all have our own tastes, so we all should be kind and respect what others like or dislike. You both are such good-hearted people! By the way, coming from Canada, I had never heard of that delicious Watergate salad we made a few weeks back! If I hadn't watched your channel, I would have missed out for the remainder of my life! If we want to eat that everyday for dessert, like you did for lunch Calvin when a young lad, who stopped you then, and who's going to stop me now? lol By the way, loved the light humor Marie and your positive attitude, both of you are awesome! Also, both of you looked very nice in your pretty flowered top Marie and the gold shirt really suits you Calvin! Keep smiling and God bless you, your sweet, precious, Grandbabies and family!

Loved seeing the great grand babies with you at your house. I can't believe some people questioned why you have extra canned goods in your pantry! My parents grew up during the Depression and we live in Hawaii, so we have always kept an extra supply of canned goods, toilet paper, etc...because living in the middle of the Pacific, if our supply chain or if there is a dock workers strike or if we have a natural disaster, we can't just drive to another state to buy things. Prepping just makes sense to me. I love seeing everything you share with us. Have a blessed week! BTW, we are preparing to eat the KFC coleslaw today with BBQ ribs and corn today! Good morning. I watch you all every Sunday morning. We all judge in some form… personal preferences, likes or dislikes. But we shouldn’t condemn or lessen another. I think it’s the intent. There is no reason for anyone to be unkind or mean spirited. My doctor once told me… years ago - never change the way you eat as you age. Moderate it. Because your body gets used to processing foods over decades. If anyone changes abruptly it throws the body off. So - moderate. I enjoy you both. Keep on being yourselves. Keep on living within the word. Many blessings. 🙏✨🕊️

Good morning and thank you, as always, for sharing your time. I'm so happy you two are able to to not let the rude comments get you down too much. Someone else I used to follow stopped their channel because a few comments were downright hateful and they couldn't get past it. I know exactly what you are saying, Marie. If I had the time and energy I used to have, I would make more dishes from scratch, but my life and circumstances have changed over the years and it's not always practical for me. Love to you both! I’m so sorry you needed to explain yourselves to those judgmental uneducated individuals. I guarantee anyone who complained about your use of canned foods has plenty of cans in their pantry. If we learned anything from COVID it was to be prepared with a storage of food and cleaning products. I guess those judgmental people did not learn that lesson. You do not need to explain yourself to anyone. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Eat whatever you want, it’s no one’s business. Life is short eat the cake!! 🧁🍦🎂🍰🍧
