Good video. Some of the best things I have done is get rid of decoys, learn to call very soft, know that just because you don't hear any gobbles on the roost doesn't mean birds aren't there, and sit longer than I thought I needed to. That's what I learned most in the past few years.
@chiya2006 Жыл бұрын
Decoys are not so bad if used in a right time. Each day unique to itself that requires different strategy. This past season I killed my biggest gobbler by using decoys. First day I didn’t have decoys and he gobbled his head off answering me, but not willing to come out, he was a boss gobbler tho. The very next day I decided I should use a decoy. I put a hen on the ground with a jake on top of him visible to that boss. Make it short, as soon as he flew down to the ground, within 5 minutes, he ran towards me like thunder, furious as he saw that jake, started hammering him. And I shot him at 10 yards @ 6:05 in the Morning and the hunt was over. Yes I had the same thinking of not using a lot of decoys, and that day was the only day I did. So my point was there are circumstances that forces you to use it , but need to know when. I used to use a decoy every day, but it’s been 2 years I cut down to when needed with the same success. Enjoy your next hunt my fellow hunter

I have to say I have learned more about turkey hunting from you than any other person. You do a really great job of explaining everything. I really feel with what I’ve learned from you, I’ll be able to kill a bird with a bow this year. I’ve always got them close, but I’ve messed something up because they never come all the way in. The video about using a jake decoy and how it can hurt you made perfect sense to me because that’s what happened last year. Thanks for the videos and good luck this turkey season.

Hi I enjoy listening to your vids. Just throwing this out there,,,say that you are working a gobbler,and he hasnt committed yet,for me if a hen starts coming in and shes headed for that Tom,if he isnt too close I’ll flush her off,her alarm has never bothered him that I know of.I know this if she gets to him she’ll keep him occupied,and more than likely your chance of bagging him goes way down that particular morning.For me its important that I don’t flush her his way.Anyways enjoy the spring hunt ,and safety is the theme of the day!🦃

I had a great season in 2020. Killed a big 4yr old tom late in the first week with shotgun after letting 4-5 jakes walk by. Hunted the rest of the season with compound bow and ended up passing shots on over 20 jakes and having 6 or 7 adult toms in easy shotgun range but having too much fun to use my last tag on one. Earliest I quit was noon cuz wasn't a day I didn't have deer or turkeys walking all over me and man it was fun. 2020 also least competition I've had in 15 years which was a big part of why it was so much fun. Keep the great advice coming Matt, I learn something every time I watch you.

Mr. Dale, what are your thoughts on Ray Eye? He’s killed a lot of birds and seems to teach the opposite of you. He’s an advocate of a lot of calling and doesn’t believe in call shy turkeys.
@daleoutdoors173 жыл бұрын
Ray is a great turkey hunter. Actually me and him teach a lot of the same stuff. I don’t believe in call shy turkeys either . And I believe in calling a lot also. Just the right kind of calling. So not sure what you think we are opposite about. I’m sure a few things he does I don’t do that’s just difference in people. But Ray is a awesome guy and a genuine guy as well. A true turkey killer. :)

If you can get em to gobble to a hen call just do a little purrs. If he isn't henned up most times he will come. That being said he is looking hard when he comes in. If you're still, and well hidden when he gets in your area he won't see you, and oftentimes will start peacocking(fanning) and dropping his wings to the ground strutting, and gobbling. Don't buy into what you see on the mainstream turkey videos. That's not the norm.

You should talk about how quality calls can affect hunts and success of hunts. I bought some custom calls helped my success rate on pressured birds. My area Quaker boy primos are in everyone vest . So if they heard it for years. I had a buddy hunt with me with Quaker boy. Birds wouldn’t gobble. Used my David halloran slate . And he got fired up . He missed the 40 yard shot.
