I’ve heard some anecdotes about Jill Jones destroying Prince/ Susannah Melvoin’s paintings, throwing a woman into a fireplace (apparently she said this herself on Twitter), slamming a woman’s leg into a car door (one that Prince was interested in) and we know Mayte said Prince didn’t commit any acts of violence to a single person in the decade she knew him- so it was most likely a defensive abuse situation (toxic relationship) and not just Prince being a woman beater. Anna Fantastic also scratched one of his expensive vintage cars and he didn’t act mad/ violent towards her, so it’s not a pattern with him. She already said she hit him first while he was kissing someone, and that they “tussled” after that before he apparently punched her. Anyone who suffered with childhood trauma like him is gonna be reactive to something like that, (especially considering he was 5’2- Jill is 5’9) someone invading the physical abuse barrier. It’s not a coincidence that Jill (who says she hit him) and Sinead (who says she spit on him before he threw a pillow at her) both invaded his personal space before he allegedly retaliated. I’m Gen Z and if anyone cancels him for that, it’s undeserved.

I am a lifetime fan of Prince from Detroit. The first city to give Prince his props. WE DO NOT NEED ANOTHER DOCUMENTARY ON PRINCE. What made the world fall in love with Prince was his music. We didn't give a damn about his personal life. These people just want to bring another black hero down. Prince has been gone for eight years and we miss him dearly. Let's focus on hearing music from the vault that he never released. THAT WOULD BE INTERESTING. Not another damn documentary. Feast on Diddy. Leave Prince alone.

Definitely shocking that Jill says he punch her in the face, but we weren't there and who knows how it went down. Not taking sides just saying tempers can get heated when parties are involved in a "Love Triangle". Netflix and the Estate should just agree to release it and let the fans decide for them selves. Maybe a warning at the beginning such as...... "Netflix and the Prince Estate do not support views in this documentary. The witness accounts told are one side of the story and nothing has been proven either way. The viewer is left to make up their own mind on what to believe. This documentary's purpose is to show what some say had happened, the good the bad and the ugly. Almost everything we've been fed by the media -Moline plane landing, prescriptions, no will, etc, etc, ....right down to his personal feelings, for whom, when, and how that played out. For all we know Prince could be still alive right now, using his golden parachute and the people he has in place. Was Prince a groomer? Was he comparable to a lot of these wyt men that have been somewhat exposed? This is all relative to individual perspective, perception...and intention! From what most of us have already come to understand...no, not really...but my 31 yo daughter loves P and disagrees with me. Bottom line, regardless of the 40 years I've entertained my fascination with Prince (as one of the most intriguing humans of our time)...I would love to see 'the good, bad, and ugly'..as long as it is respectful in reflecting the truth. Prince has earned the honour of deserving proper respect. They should consider doing a doc on the affects Prince had on humanity..because THAT is what's really much more inspiring..and truth!

Why can’t Prince have a Moonage Daydream, Wham! or a This Is Elvis? They always do this to our heroes. It’s not about hiding the truth but making it balanced. 20 years ago, you could have gotten away with making a documentary Ezra is making but you can’t in this climate. All the clout chasers and gossipers are waiting to tear this doc apart and build their own narrative based on the material given in the film. They are ready to twist everything said and make it Johnathan Majors/OJ/Leaving Paisley Park. They haven’t even interviewed the people from the later eras according to the people from that time. I don’t blame the Estate one bit for standing their ground, you have to make it fair. This is Netflix we’re talking about and this is the only shot for their narrative. Whatever is said or shown will be glued to his legacy forever because this documentary is for the masses.

Jill Jones slapped him and struggles with Prince not being that into her and jealous of the women he was really into like Susan Moonsie and Vanity. She seemed to be messing with him on the low at first. She seems embarrassed and bitter. She has to own the way she carried herself and not just make Prince all bad and herself all good . There were a lot more people in his world, weird the director focused on them. His life kept going after the 80s and after divorce. And there are a lot more people he dealt with, seem like he zoomed in on the bitter and self indulged people with negativity to share. Prince had a right to fire, divorce and not be that into people. I already knew the dark occultist spiritual stuff he was into before he came to know who God really was. It was called “Prince or Predator The scandalous life of Prince “ on KZbin Life Luker page. Yeah I see why he was so obsessed with music, controlling, and a perfectionist . People want to blame it on Astrology but that’s a lame excuse so everybody born in that month is that way got two or more personalities? No! The music never let him down or hurt him. At the end of the day, there are other projects Netflix wants to do with this exclusive access to the vault. They paid for it and Lord help the estate if Netflix decides they haven't been able to exploit what they paid for. We can't stop them from taking that pound of flesh from a brotha's legacy. It's spiritual. Prince, Michael, and others have messed with folks who control the means of distribution, and they don't forgive. Prince's issues started when he abandoned a PR campaign way too early when the powers believed he would make a seriously expensive play for MJ's spot...he left money on the table. Prince's estate needs to read the room and understand that he's not a Civil Rights Hero, he's a highly dysfunctional Super Human level genius, and it's more important to get that story out there than playing the race game with these folks. Remember, at one of Prince's speeches, he clearly said "it's their game."

Ok so here's my take on this whole Jill Jones thing. I'm upset at the fact that she has done interviews for YEARS talking about how she loves him, but when she's talking about him there has always been a negative undertone. If you're still feeling some type of way about him, don't agree to do interviews about him just because of the money opportunity or the clout! And then to see the screenshots of her in FB calling him a groomer and saying he didn't look happy and he's alone just because he wanted to keep putting out music, it didn't sit right. Then to find out she told interviewers he punched her in the face repeatedly after she attacked him, doesn't sit right with me. Why do we need to know that y'all got in a fight?! Like even if y'all had that altercation, why on Earth did she think we needed to know that?!

I am wary of any Prince documentary given mainstream's oddly persistent agenda trying to diminish Black men. Like Eddie Griffin said, the "asterisk." Prince did leave clean, so now his legacy has to get raked over the coals either bluntly or subtly. His childhood trauma you mentioned somehow escaped my knowledge. But most of all Prince was still human and an unmatched talent. The only thing I would disagree with, is that I wouldn't do like McMillan, meddling in the estate if Prince had him escorted off the premises, business or not, then making derogatory references to Prince. I would have had enough respect to stay away. McMillan's mere involvement in Paisley Park in any way is therefore disrespectful and corrupt. See how he sued the other content creator for her activism?

Tammy's talking about the documentary like it's just a hit piece. I don't believe that the case. The article mentions many positives about Prince like his charitable contributions. If it was just a hit piece, the estate would've just said you can't release this, but that's not what they did. They gave the filmmaker notes, and edits to make so that they would be comfortable with it coming out. That tells me there's a lot about it that they liked. Many people just focus on the negative even if it's only a small part of the film. I would like to see it for myself and make up my own mind. @grneyeddlbaby I'm not sure I could have stood down on spitting male or female. As a much younger man, I had problems with anger and impulse control. However, that wasn't the consensus in the Prince fan community. We questioned whether an interaction with him could ever go south that way despite none of us knowing him. We talked about mental health, which she obviously had issues with, we projected our hero worship on her. This documentary is not coming out because the estate is out of step with modern PR, and we don't want to deal with what we've projected on this man.

@creditorclass6513 to be honest I really can't picture him punching or slapping a woman for any reason. Seeing how this can now cause clout chasers to come out, I have a problem with them waiting until after his death to come out, Ms JILL JONES. I just know somehow Susannah is gonna interject herself and come up with a story too. Too me it's not a deal breaker. The female thing, though, has a little James Brown to it, though, the injury of distrust. I can imagine him being hard in his expectations of women. The thing for me is that I don't believe canceling is a real quantifiable thing for the Giants, and 9 hrs is justifiable in illustrating exactly why Prince is a thing. I listened to a podcast about the documentary and it had the writer of the article speaking. She said that there’s nothing shocking in the documentary, there’s no allegations other than Jill Jones and she said that lots of women loved working with Prince. She also mentioned that she wasn’t a fan before, but now she is and she watched it multiple times. This makes me think we don’t know the details of the Jill Jones incident, she did already admit she hit Prince first, so I’m sure the incident is discussed in a way that doesn’t make Prince seem like an abusive villain. And the article mentions that he never slept with anyone under 18, so he has no pedo allegations or anything. So, Prince wouldn’t be cancelled if this came out. He was a great person who had flaws, just like anyone else- and low points in his life. The woman also mentioned that the estate hated many minor aspects of the documentary, including the way they portrayed Paisley Park with dark lighting, etc, so it’s not because of some hidden P Diddy type stuff.

I totally respect Jill, and I believe her. People forgot men were hitting females in the 80's. If this led me to believe in 84' when "When doves cry " was recorded. Domestic violence was starting to be addressed in 1990. Even 94' with OJ, their was plenty of warning that this wasn't good. So yes, men were still hitting girls for a long time. I don't think that part will get prince canceled. He put slapping in his movies. And think about how wrong it was to be kissing your lovers friend in front of your girl. The friend should of been off limits, by herself and prince, surely she knew Jill was sleeping with prince, I doubt that was a secret. What was he thinking? He deserved to be slapped. He probably wanted to get a reaction from Jill. as we already heard that prince told Robin to tell his girlfriend, who introduced Robin to him, that he was leaving with Robin, just to get a reaction. Prince being abandoned 4 times by age 19 probably messed him up, 2 times by his father. It's the worst thing you can do to a human, abandoned them. Just one time can mess with your head. But, I want to put a perspective on Mattie sending prince to his dad's, he had a younger sister living in the house, and curfew should be set. I'm guessing prince didn't follow curfew. So Hayward and Mattie needed to put the foot down on that important issue. His stepfather locking prince up was wrong, but maybe they didn't know what to do. I didn't even hear about CPS until I had children. Parents were on their own with their kids. I really feel for Jill, prince leading her on for years, I thought 8 years but she said she was around 11 years. We can only guess the things he told her, we hear plenty in his songs, a lot of (your the only one I want,) more than a dozen times he says (your the one,) and it's not the same girl, just the same words. My guess is prince loved to flirt and be flirted with, remember the butterflies, a good dopamine rush, well when that stopped, the girl was gone, because you guessed it a new toy came along. I can see how he would be irresistible, he was so fly and easy on the eyes too. It's pleasing to see prince pleased in concert, I understand why everyone wanted to please him. I love the Torah torah time, he had an extra skip in his step. I wish he could of kept Mayte, had children and lived a happy life. He was so cheated with Amir, very sad. His life changed in 97' and was never the same. The best guitarists ever.

I love Prince. But: listening to all kinds of stories from people who worked and lived with him it is quite clear that he behaved like some sort of cult leader. Probably not in its worst form, but the manipulating and controlling of musicians, friends, girlfriends, etc. is pretty obvious. Its pretty disturbing and for the people who lived through this its kind of still traumatising because they often recognize only decades later that they have been taken advantage of by someone who is a musical genius and loved worldwide. What makes it worse is that fans around the world do not wish to hear these stories because it would destroy their illusions about their idol. The fact that Prince was a member of a cult ( Jehovas Witnesses) in the last decade of his life is very telling..This is not to minimize Princes achievements or importance for music and culture, but to see the whole picture. I guess it would have been great for him and his personal development and mental health ( and for those around him ) if more people stood up for others in this mixture of inspiring and toxic environement and said NO to him. The flying monkeys and yes men were a big part of the problem. And by the way reg. the young women who he contacted over decades to work with: neither of them was able to have great careers in music, he as a genius musician knew this from the start. He was manipulating these mostly very young and gorgeous women in believing that he can make things happen for them, which he did not. He pretty much set them up for professional failure. He wanted to be adored by young and pretty naive women and wasnt able to be alone. Something about him was pretty offish. ( I dont think Jill Jones is talking any rubbish, its true , but she should have left the scene much earlier , it was a toxic environment especially for women)...

Your mention of "stories from people who worked and lived with him" is vague and risks perpetuating stereotypes about him. It is important to be mindful of this, especially considering how some white musicians, such as those in the Grateful Dead or even Elvis Presley, have been associated with cult-like followings without facing the same level of scrutiny. Our concern lies in the disproportionate negative portrayal of Black male artists, particularly when compared to their white counterparts. Many white musicians have acknowledged the roots of jazz, blues, and country in Black culture. A similar level of respect and fairness should be applied when discussing Black artists in this context.
