I love a Betta. I lost my beautiful black mustard gas boy "Bruce" recently. He was the most timid and amazing looking Betta imaginable. It always feels a little personal, I wish they lived longer. I'm thinking of doing a new little setup solely for another, these superfish tanks look great.

It seems like any sort of pet keeping -aside from dogs & cats is really a dying hobby in the US. Almost all the cool “mom & pop” shops are being replaced with giant pet “super stores” like “PetCo.”

You can.. mostly. Superfish is the European brand and distributor for those tanks. But some of them are rebranded and sold by SR Aquaristik in the US. (I hope it's ok to say this since it does not bite away any Superfish sales.) :)

The filter takes up a ton of space in the tank and is visually quite obtrusive. I like the light but not a fan of the “frame,” it’s giving aquatic microwave. Love the Betta.

My favorite Superfish product is the Aged Mangrove Wood, no need to anchor them down or pre soak them, just a quick rinse and they just sink immediately XD

Great review for a great tank! I like how long it is, most fish prefer footprint to height and don't mesh well with cube-shaped nano tanks. Sacrificing height for more length was certainly a good call! That kind of footprint would even let you keep schooling fish, which is not very feasible or humane in most nano tanks. If you're not into bettas, some dwarf rasboras, pygmy cories or anchor catfish would also feel perfectly at home in one of these.

I think 25l is a bit on the small side. I do realy enjoy the videos and I admire the scapes (pure art), but often I'm concerned about the animals. And this is a big problem I see in this hobby in general, because there is a lack of clear information* and if things look good, we assume they are. Fish need space and enrichment like any other animal. *Context: I thought, 25l is on the small side. Looked for sources. Found source in german: 54-60l. Tried to find an english source 19l is the minimum. THAT is a huge difference!

Yeah in Germany animal protection law is quite strict and for ANY fish 54l (60cm long) is the official minimum. No matter how big that fish is or how many one want to put in the tank. No one would say anything for 1 samll Betta in a 40l tank tho. But in the UK that tank is legal. I think 25L is the bare minimum for 1 smaller Betta like that one.

I've got the 85 (I think it is), I have found the heater that they suggest is pants! It has broke twice, first time the supplier replaced it, the next time I didn't bother and bought an alternative. It just wouldn't hold a consistent heat, would drop to 23/24 (set at 25) then would rocket up to 27+, I just couldn't trust another. Love the tank though, clean looking tank and filter though, that's simple to use and does a great job👍🏻

I have an outdoor water garden pond about 3,000 gallons. I had Koi and named them. They were awesome!!! When I went outside they all swam to the waters edge. I named them after the Lord of the Rings characters. Yep….a River Otter found my pond by the waterfall sounds. 2 of them wiped me out!! I now have goldfish and Shubunkins. They are also awesome but they are now just known as the Hobbits. I have caves aliong with sheer sides plus 4 feet deep. The Herons do not win but those swimming River Otters did! I was heart broken for some time . My koi were so nice and liked to be petted and hand fed. Ponds are lots easier than the little tanks, a bit more forgiving. I think I will try a Beta tank and see where it gets me. Thank you!! Love your channel!

Wonderful Betta scape! I always added other fish with betta’s. I’ve never had a problem with adding Cory cats or a small school of Harlequin rasboras or Neons to a betta tank. They All ways seemed to get along just fine in my personal experiences.

I totally understand why you do these set ups the way you do. It's your preference, it's what you like. You do great aquascaping. I was just wondering if you'd consider building more specific environments for your fish, like you've done a few times already. This betta's environment could've been a really good example of that. Spot on for superfish being great value couldn't agree more been getting their lights for a few years now and apart from the retroleds ( heat degredation issue for the LEDs because they are sealed in glass tubes)Ive had no problems and even that problem isnt the end of the world at that price

I wish we had this brand in the US, I Love these tanks. Idk what's similar here, pretty expensive cube kits I've looked at. I'm looking into different kits on different sites and too pricey for me. I want cubes, tired of the old narrow rectangle tanks. I'll have to do more research LOL Kits work well for me instead of piecemeal. I'm learning though, ty for the awesome content MD! I love this setup, and I'm a big fan of superfish filters and heaters. They were what I started with. They are always great for beginners. But you are paying for the design on this. I think it must be said that you could do this setup far cheaper, even using a superfish heater and filter with a cheaper light and cheaper, but simpler tank.

I have actually had a very different experience md. I don’t have a single betta by itself. It’s been this way for around 8 years now too! Over 15 different bettas and not a single one didn’t tolerate another fish. Do not mix male bettas together however because they will fight. But I have kept cpds, guppies, mollies, khuli loaches, and shrimp, and snails too. Just make sure the aquarium is at least 2.5 gallons and is well planted with lots of hiding places.

@@86Kera it may. You need to make sure to have plenty of hiding space and things to break up line of sight. I would recommend having other small fish in there also so that they have more distribution between if any aggression. If it doesn’t work, separate them. Whenever I set up something like that, I like to sit down and watch the aquarium very closely for at least 30mins-1 hour and monitor it very closely for the following hours.

If this was 10g it would be pretty perfect. It's at the bare minimum size though, far from ideal. I'd strongly recommend if any viewers are considering a betta to go with a minimum of 10 gallon. Even that feels too small for me sometimes, the waterbox cube 15 AIO probably would have been better but I liked the square look and 20 woulda been silly for a single fish. The 10 is really good though. The ramp up is awesome! Gently bringing the light vs suddenly full blast and scaring the fish. Good feature. Also don't put any other fish in with a betta in less than a 20g. I thought the 10 would be fine, but nah. It was fine for a night then my guy started mercing. :c (I returned the survivors, unfortunately he started hunting them during a job interview so I couldn't do anything to save the two he ripped all the fins off). It will vary based on the personality, but may as well de-risk it if you want a betta/tetra or betta/rasbora tank. Give more space. It's really sad to deal with otherwise. Same with shrimp. it's probably 1:3 odds the fish ignores them. They will DEFINITELY eat the babies. They might rip the shrimp into bits to eat. Some bettas kill cories. Their personalities are all so different. Best way to derisk it is make the tank larger, and put all the other fish in FIRST. Let the shrimp/smaller fish establish, and learn hidey holes. Then the betta is new to the "territory" and less likely to attack "intruders." I love betta fish so much, but they're glorious assholes. It's just their nature.

I do like to give them names. But most of them are groups so I have the Utrecht Cardinals (cardinal tetra), the Silvertip Surfers, the Rummynose Ronins, The Amsterdam-Rhine Canal Cory Gang (calling them after Canal Island, a burrough of Utrecht, would be too much on the nose considering this part of town has a certain image) and all the shrimp are Westbroek Grazers(named after the rural area I look at from my flat). The two bristlenoses do have individual names, Peppi & Kokki, after characters in a Dutch silent comedy series.

MD, have you ever done the mud skipper tank? I was watching videos from 3 years ago and caught that you had the tank for them, you were building for the newts, but I don't think you were able to source them in COVID time. Ever think about a freshwater Gobi tank, or the mud skipper tank? Lol just curious

I name my bettas. I like my tank and I like the way it looks with a red plakat in it so when one red plakat dies the tank gets another red plakat. Im on Red the third of his name now. In a couple years when this on passes there will likely be a Red the fourth.

Yo MD, can you show us some tips for people who don't use as much soil/substrate and gravel only. Which plants can thrive better, tips for planting in straight gravel, etc..

You need 2 inches of gravel for a stable aquarium. In straight gravel you can use root tabs. But honestly it's better to use 2 inches of sand not gravel. You won't need to vaccuum the sand or do water changes if you use duckweed or other floating plants.
