I carried a Model 19 4" on duty for a number of years before going to a Model 66, then to a 586, so I carried a Smith revolver for the first 14 years of my career. After my department switched to Glocks in 1988, I carried a Glock of one version or another for another 24 years, but I still used revolvers - primarily S&W - for my entire PPC competition career. I still have a Model 19 6" and a 2 1/2", but unfortunately no longer have a 4". I much prefer the early Smiths with recessed chambers, hammer-mounted firing pins, real polished blue finish and Goncala Alves grips. Modern Smiths don't hold a candle to the originals. Thanks for sharing a beautiful example of a fine piece from the heyday of double-action revolvers.

Thank you very much for sharing! As I mentioned in the video, I’m just getting into revolvers and I’m very much in diapers when it comes to them. However I am enjoying them very much. Especially like you say the older ones. I just purchased a 19-4 6 inch from 1977 I believe and it is absolutely amazing. It also has the target shoe, hammer and grips. The trigger is just amazing. Thank you for watching and cheers!

Beautiful revolver! Had one of the early models myself and sold it year’s ago. Still regret it. The newer models though seem quality and have no problem what so ever in handeling a steady diet of .357 due to the improvements S&W made to the classic line. What a nice example of old S&W quality when they were at the top of their craft. I wanted to let you know that there is one small detail not covered by you on this gun. Some k frames and L frames have a trigger stop tap that is located behind the trigger. The trigger stop tab lays in a slot that is machined into the frame. That tab is adjustable by loosening the internal screw holding it in place. The tab can come loose if the screw is not tight. These tabs were on some k or l frames but not all. The way to tell is if the slot is machined into the frame. I have seen k & l frames with slot and no tab installed, they may have left factory like this or might have been removed along the way? Larger S&W N frames accomplish a trigger stop, employing a rod inside trigger return spring block machined to correct length to limit over- travel. The rod method can be utilized in all S&W frame sizes. Newer S&W performance center revolvers use a trigger stop installed on the back of the trigger to limit over- travel. So it appears that your 3 T model 19 has a 4th T for trigger stop. Thank you MDpolo for showing us that beautiful piece of American quality.

Very beautiful firearm. Did you ever look inside the stocks to see if they are numbered to the gun? And by the way, your revolver still has it's trigger stop installed. The line around the cylinder is called the drag line . It is caused by the cylinder stop touching the cylinder when it rotates. Just stick to standard pressure 357 loads 158 grain bullets and your gun will last for years. Also 38 specials are very nice to shoot.👍

158gr 357 mag works well in mine, try not use lighter bullet, the forcing cone is a lil bit thin. Yours is a s&w’s commercial line gun since it got glossy bluing instead of normal service dark bluing. Always love K frames, great size, great balance.

I have noticed that sometimes these revolvers have a little S&W logo on the left side of the frame and sometimes a larger logo on the right side of the frame like on your gun here. Do you know when that little logo came and when that large logo came? Or are they different models?

Absolutely a stunning gun!!! For everybody moaning about, "they just don´t do them like they used to". Well obviously they do not. There was a lot of hand fitting of parts involved back then. Grinding, polishing and stoning by hand. Today CNC machines do the parts exactly to the spec without the need to hand fitting to the degree as before. Modern metallurgy has changed these are produced today i a more cost effective way. Good for them and good for us. Bluing had to be supervised in a different manner than today. Parts for particular complete guns had to be blued together in specific batches so the same hue of bluing could be maintained on a complete gun. Color casehardening of those triggers and hammers were a costly business although beautiful and were often ruined by inexperienced "gunsmiths" who "polished" contact surfaces to "improve" the trigger. The thin protection of the hardening just vanished at that point and the result was a trigger that got worse and worse over time. Plus color case hardening is not the optimal thing for let´s say S&W triggers, they often shoved cracking on thin areas (drilled holes for the hand) of the trigger after extensive use. The use of strong yet cost effective MIM parts has improved a lot of those problems. So, no.... They surely don´t do them like they used to. We couldn´t afford it if they did.

I have a super cool story for you all. My father's uncle had one of this, his sister who worked as a teacher was raped by a fellow teacher and he found out about it. He came to the school and found the teacher cutting out pieces for designa because they're about to have a party the next day. My father's uncle took the teacher's scissors and stabbing him dead. He didnt know this teacher had a twin. His twin hunted for my father's uncle, and lastly he found his motorcycle parked near the house he is drinking in. The teacher's twin had a automatic carbine with him and shouted 'Get out of there if youre a real man!' my father's uncle got out and he was shot so many times by the teacher's twin, it hit his ribs and all of the bones of his upper body. But before falling down, he pulled this gun out and shot the man straight to his head. My father's uncle didnt die, he traded his gun to my father's necklace and its still here.
