Thank you for making this video. It clearly illustrates spectogram view for odd sounds. I am facing a real problem when such sounds a are mixed with human voice. Is there a way in audacity to eliminate such unwanted sounds from human sound in recordings. That would be a great help. Thanks.

Thank you! Interesting to read the Short Time Fourier Transform as well. The STFT formula gives a spectrogram with three dimensions: magnitude as a function of time and frequency.

Probably vertical patterns are rhythmic and horizontal may be related to chords or held tones. Try looking and listening. Enjoy!

- Thanks. 'Interesting. I'm doing some informal research re. helping the deaf. I'm wondering whether a spectrogram could be expressed onto an area of a deaf person's skin and enable them, with gradual training, to hear through their skin. I mean, the information is clearly there (just as it is in the vibrations on the cochlea). I expect you could start by learning to recognise sounds like 's' or 't' or 'h' or 'z' and then learn to recognize words like 'sat' as distinct from 'sit', and 'hat' or 'has' - What do you think? . Bruce Thomson in New Zealand.

yes I breathe partly thru my skin .Jim is quite deaf and we have devised means of helping him to see/hear my speech.
@BruceThomson10 жыл бұрын
Viv Bibby In case you don't already know, smart phones (e.g. my Galaxy S2) can 'listen' to you speak, and within a few seconds, display as text what you said (but very often with bungling errors of interpretation). I'm working informally with Deaf NZ and demonstrated that to a deaf interpreter who was present during the interview with them. Am talking with a guy at Transcence see their vid at i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2014/10/15/video-undefined-223F373C00000578-677_638x362.jpg

Ummmm...even if a person has healthy ear drums they still must have those sensors wired to their brains and they must also be able to use their brains to process the sounds. Most people are spiritually Brain Dead Zombies therefore hearing they hear not and seeing they see not. How often have ya been with somebody & heard something then turn to the person with ya & asked them if they heard the sound you just heard only to have that person say they did not hear it then proceed to call you Crazy for hearing stuff? Well, guess what, the Microphone is like a Camera in that it can be used to Prove a Sound Happened & you are not Crazy for hearing Stuff. It is not wrong to be Aware & Observant of All Aspects of your Surrounding Environments. In fact it is wise to be Aware of thy Surroundings & Foolish to be Oblivious.
