Actually, this song was written by Kris Kristofferson and first recorded by Roger Miller in 1969. It was later recorded by Kenny Rogers (1969) and Gordon Lightfoot (1970). kzbin.info/www/bejne/fV6taKCCrqlmr8U Janis Joplin recorded her cover also in 1970, shortly before her untimely death.
