Someone here said double chins are hereditary, they aren’t. Your jaw structure is hereditary. Double chins form from having face fat and that just depends on your face structure, if u have a big jaw most likely it will take u time to have a double chin, where as if u have a small chin and jaw your double chin will appear more . U don’t need to be overly fat to get one . All depends on where u get your fat first.

It also depends on where your body stores fat, which can also be hereditary/genetic, from my understanding? Take Fatty Liver Disease for example. It’s when too much fat is stored in the liver. While being overweight definitely helps contribute to it, you can also just be f*ed over by the genetic lottery & your body just decides to store it there for some reason. I mean I haven’t really researched much into double chins, but could it also be similar to that? Like your body just decides to store it in the chin/neck for whatever reason instead of all over the body.

I had a friend in middle school with a very pronounced double chin. She was a very thin girl. Not overweight at all. Then in her adulthood she got really into sports and got extremely muscular and even skinnier. She lost her double chin, but also her face sunk in and she aged like 30 years. She is such a beautiful person inside and out, and I am not hating on her at all. Just agreeing that people’s face shapes are just different and it doesn’t necessarily mean they need to loose weight. One time in BIOLOGY class, my teacher was doing a lesson on how double chins are inherited, based upon your DNA, and how you can tell from a VERY young age, whose going to have one and who is not. He literally went around from DESK to DESK, examining our profiles, and telling each kid if they’d eventually have a double chin or not, breaking the hearts of skinny 7th cheerleader’s. 😂 Chubby and all, but I was NOT one of those children and as you can see today, HE was right! 🤷🏽‍♀️

@@Jb64271 yeah I just meant in reference to my bmi being Abt 19 last time I checked, my body fat percentage is 20 and as a woman I think that's relatively good. Your correct in that im relatively inactive however I was in cross country and track, both required 2 hours of cardio 5 days per week and most ppl in the team had double chins to some extent, and that's not to mention other sports such as football or wrestling where a higher body fat percentage is beneficial. But all and all it rlky is facial structure

I’m average in weight (55kg) but I have a rounded face and due to thyroid issues I have a sorta double chin . You don’t have to be severely overweight to have a double chin
