We met up with Andy Marsh, lead guitarist with Australian deathcore band Thy Art Is Murder, to take a closer look at his workhorse guitar; an Ibanez RG1527.

70 fuckin gauge for his A string!? Damn man. I play in drop G and drop G#. For drop G#, I only use a 64g which is pretty fucking thick. I cant believe he is using a 70g for drop A. So fuckin thick.

Jerry Kelley I have 6 string RG I've had for 10 years and play the same tunings as you do with same guage. I've also played with 70g top baritone strings and it's all about tention and tone. I like the thick, sharp, hard attack of the thin guage on the lower tuning and thicker strings just up your tention and get a more beefy muddled tone. Right now I'm using EB Skinny top Heavy bottoms and they are my favorite for the low tunings because my bottom strings hold the tension better and you still get that massive thick punch tone from the tops. Have a good one bro!

Jerry Kelley I use a 72 for B standard.

Does anyone know how he "blocked" his tremolo with that 9 volt battery?
@brandontolbert25589 жыл бұрын
take the back of your guitar off like you're going to intonate your floyd rose, pull up on the trem bar, and put the 9v in the space and let go of the trem bar. kind of hard to envision but that's how it's done.

it worked thanks dude. I was considering getting a new guitar with a fixed bridge now i dont have to

Why is it that when someone says "this is my favorite model" its often heavily modded? Not that its bad, just odd. Also, is it safe to use a battery like that?
@toebs_8 жыл бұрын
+AzHarris He said it is his favourite because he owned it for so long. And what do you expect the battery to do? Like... exploding or something?
@AzHarris8 жыл бұрын
+Tobi He Dunno! Batteries are on my on my list of untrustworthy items. They rank along the lines of the high E string, rips in fabric and edges of paper.

Necroing a 7 year old comment but I'd rather just cut out a block of wood instead of batteries. I did that to block my JP60 trem.
@taredmonkeh23178 жыл бұрын
Why have the 9v battery if he using passive pickups?...
@retrorewind60428 жыл бұрын
He uses it to block off the tremolo so that he doesnt go out of tune with bends
@peterbagosi38627 жыл бұрын
he said he use the battery to "lock" the tremolo pretty clever thing because it has the perfect size for it
@CoDisafishy7 жыл бұрын
So basically he got rid of all the features that made this guitar expensive haha.

not even close, the fretwork and tolerances are what make a prestige model a prestige

70 gauge? Jesus, I play in drop B and use 54s lol
@peterbagosi38627 жыл бұрын
its a baritone guitar whitch mean it has a longer neck, u should use higher gauges for the same tension
@TheFroggery7 жыл бұрын
Péter Bagosi RG1527 is standard scale, not baritone
@peterbagosi38627 жыл бұрын
oh really? hm... i'll try 60's with Drop A on my 6 string :o
@TheFroggery7 жыл бұрын
Péter Bagosi i use a .64 on my RG7321 and it works well
@DoctorLipsh1ts7 жыл бұрын
***** Andy said in another video that their stings are super tight and tense, so I think 60s should be fine. I know the band Nile uses 52s for drop A which seems nuts lol but hey whatever gets the job done
