I love the live acoustic session they did.. where at the end of the song you hear "my church is black....." ......(brief pause).. When has Åkerfeldet said that? Last interviews I've read he explained that he simply wasn't inspired enough to continue in the way Opeth was and was not writing good enough songs to feel comfortable releasing them. Some day he might feel that inspiration, but for now I'm happy as it is. I don't give a damn if it's 70's prog rock or the 'old Opeth' as I love both types of music. Also for having no part in metal their previous setlists include a shit-ton of metal...

It's not as impressive as you might think, I'm Norwegian, and despite not reaching their deserved fame worldwide, they were huge here in Norway and certain parts of Europe as well. Unfortunately I only got to catch them live once, and it was on their last tour in 2008.

The spoken word intro sounds like an existentialist's manifesto. The search for meaning in a meaningless world: "You want to feel the land you're looking for You want to move, but you lost the gall You want to pray, but you forgot the words You lost the land you're looking for" This is problematic because Nergal is certainly not an existentialist in a strict sense (he holds metaphysical beliefs), but it is quite interesting nevertheless. The Black Church may be a type of falsely-created-meaning, one typifying capitalist greed and objectifying consumerism (The Strip Club). This realization is only gained by the narrator at the end of the song, where he sees his/her authentic ("true") meaning lies offshore.
