Me And You And A Dog Named Boo was written and performed by Lobo under his real name of Roland Kent LaVoie. It was his debut single and reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Easy Listening charts in 1971
Me And You And A Dog Named Boo
I remember to this day
The bright red Georgia clay
And how it stuck to the tires
After the summer rain
Will power made that old car go
A woman's mind told me that so
Oh how I wish
We were back on the road again
Me and you and a dog named boo
Travellin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named boo
How I love being a free man
I can still recall
The wheat fields of St. Paul
And the morning we got caught
Robbing from an old hen
Old McDonald he made us work
But then he paid us for what it was worth
Another tank of gas
And back on the road again
I'll never forget the day
We motored stately into big L.A.
The lights of the city put settlin'
Down in my brain
Though it's only been a month or so
That old car's buggin' us to go
We've gotta get away and get back on
The road again

I was in 8th grade when this song came out, and even then, wondered what it would be like to live out on the road. After I grew up, I was going to do just that, but all I did was keep showing up for those jobs, and never did get out on the road. Now I am too old and feeble to do it. Young people, if you want to do something DO IT! Don't put it off like I did, and decades later ask yourself "why didn't I do it?" Time passes fast, and the next thing you know, your time to get things done is over. Trust me......

This song takes me back to the drifter lifestyle, travelling in my car from one place to another being free from the everyday life of my home. The difference is that I am carrying the memories of my deceased pet guinea pig Ronnie with me, and his photo sits alongside of me placed in front of my car's transmission stick.

I am 22 years old and I was grown up around my dad (56 as of right now) and I love the 60s, 70s, and 80s music. It was way better. Songs had depth, songs had meanings. Now's music is crap and it's basically: "Oh, my girlfriend left me, a boo-a hoo-a! I wish we can go back in the 70s man...

I was about 11 when this came out. My big brother Tommy was home from Montana for a visit , we went to a record store and he bought me the 45 of this. It was the last time I saw him.( He passed away later that year out west in a accident cutting trees :-( ) BUT its a fond memory of big brother - little sister time together ♥

Ray Thank you so much. It was a long time ago, still miss him, but still a fond memory. I'm the baby of the family, and have 3 sisters and 1 brother( I had another brother, he passed away in 1990 age 45). I live near my one sister, and 2 sisters and my brother live across the state, and we get together once or twice a year, we're still close. That's cute that your sisters called you their guard dog. Here's hoping they can continue calling you their "guard dog" for many years to come. Take care !

I liked the road signs ..Hwy 50 - Columbia - Centerville -- Middle Tennessee - My home place .. Not even close to Georgia.. AWESOME song though .. Funny that me and my girl ran away from home not 3 miles from that sign. We were teenage runaways in my 56 Chevy. Made it to Tampa, Fl.. It was fun while it lasted. Worked a little for food and gas along the way. Finally ran out of work, food, money and gas. Parked in an orange grove in Winterhaven with two flat tire and no spare. After a couple hours an angel stopped by and rescued us. Got me a job and a place to live. Then Uncle Sam came knocking and we had to take that Greyhound back to Hwy 50 - Columbia - Centerville -
