Even now theres nothing out there to compare to those B10Ms, they way they wear with age is simply incredible.

For a coach of around 20 years old, that sounds so impressive! I've always admired manual gearboxed B10M's!

Love the sound of the old B10M. I drove a plaxton premiere B10M auto. Bullet proof beasts.

It's so much quieter than others & very smooth in its operations. But, I suppose it's down to it being much younger than others we have seen on KZbin.😁. It does pick up pace quite quickly ( excellorates ( excuse my spelling) quite quickly which is a good thing

Yes, a nice drive, took me back a few years when I was an instructor for Nat Ex, that was when the best licence to have was a manual PCV licence...proper driving.

As i kid I always wanted to drive a bus, I own shops instead lol I love watching through your videos the due care, attention and due diligence you have as a young driver, My cousin drives busses and I would never set foot on one if he was driving !!!!! hit things, driving through red lights, slamming on brakes on school busses if the kids were a bit noisy, took the wing mirror right off the driver side, but with him nothing is ever HIS FAULT!!! according to his mum, never is ! I look at you driving and think of him i feel safer on a bus with YOU !

We have had a couple of B10m's here that were manual but they were rare. While I didn't notice as a child, my dad usually noticed it really quickly and easily, because most of the times, shifting up could be a reasonably uncomfortable if the driver didn't do it with a little bit of care. Other key difference was the fact that the automatic ones had a kickdown that was pretty loud when it redlined, along with a strong reduction in sound upon going into next gear after this, while the manual ones, simply for not having to use kickdown tended to be softer if a particular amount of power was required for longer. Hearing that double air-release at 0:47 was like music to my ears, the amount of times I heard that on my way to school (not a student line by the way, average commuters line, they were driven by B10m's in the region where I live before we got Arriva)

I never realised how difficult it was to drive an old style manual coach with the gear shifter coming out the floor until I gave it a go myself in one of my dad’s company’s Setra S315 GT-HD this particular one has the OM442LA Mercedes Twin Turbo V8 Engine. Completely different driving experience to my manual car or the automatic coach I was used to driving. Found it quite difficult to be smooth but quick at the same time, watching someone else operate one so smoothly is like witchcraft to me it takes some skill.

Hands down one of the most well built and reliable engines ever. Unfortunately most of Volvo’s more modern engines aren’t anywhere near as good....

@@themaestrosfolly i agree I’ve always said that they are the best engine ever put in a bus modern Volvo engines don’t sound as smooth but grunty at the same time the D9s especially sound really rough

Stagecoach had loads of B10m single deck buses with 3 speed voith gearboxes.very quick pick up, but revved hard on the motorway because of their gearing.some had high higher speed axles letting them achieve 62 mph.

Ah yes 3 speed voith heard they are good, probably not it's natural environment the motorway, can imagine how much that was screaming 😂

My son has an ex Stagecoach Alexander PS B10M in preservation, it now has a ZF 5HP600 gearbox which has transformed its performance from when it had a 4HP500.It was flat out at 60mph before but will now keep up with and even pass coaches with ease.

awesome drive James, i really enjoy watching these video's, iv got a question, I'm an enthusiast of coaches and hopefully in a couple of years time i will be able to drive buses/coaches, it was always my ambition. my question is how does the clutch on manual transmission coaches feel in comparison to a car, for example, a car if you bring the clutch up to aggressively or aren't precise enough a car will obviously kangaroo and suspension will jump back and forward, I was wondering does this have the same effect on manual coaches or are coaches much more forgiving than cars, i used to get one of these to high school I was always in awe watching how it was done forgive my ignorance I'm just really interested and trying to learn as much as possible

Here in Brazil we had Volvo B10M until the end of 2003 and only in Euro 2 emission standards, since Brazil only started to follow Euro 3 standards in 2006. In Europe, did Volvo B10M manufacture under Euro 3 standards? If so, do you have a video link to see about the B10M Euro 3?
@finlaymcdiarmid5832 Жыл бұрын
Euro 5 i think. Standards for that kind of stuff is ludicrously high here. Just the catalytic converter costs over £20,000 and is the size of a small fridge!
