Why is this album so underrated AF? Somebody tell me, please! It's warm, like you say, even on the sad spots. Oh, and YOU HAVE TO go into a George Michael discovery. That's the guy she was covering on "One More Try". George Michael sadly died not too long ago, but he's forever a legend.

@@popland1977 it really isn't. Her tone was just like that back then. There's several live performances to prove that especially the one where she sang Happy Birthday to B Scott doing a million runs. Any autotune on the songs serves a purpose. And those pitched down videos on KZbin are bogus. If you pitch up or down any of Mariah's tracks she will sound like she did in a certain era because her voice keeps changing.

The dance kinda songs, you might not be use to them but once you start listening to her house/remix records, it's a whole different story. It's all new vocals, production, writing etc and she just goes off vocally on these remixes ESPECIALLY the 10 min ones, it's not just a producer messing around with the vocals, it's Mariah going all out for 10 mins. Anytime you need a friend, gospel song but she turns it into something completely different with the Remix. She's the queen of house record's ever since 1993

I love the Tokyo Dome version, but for some reason that remix doesn’t top my list, though of course it’s fantastic The Heartbreaker Should You Ever Be Lonely is a jam and I like Honey Classic Mix. Also do like the Vintage Throwback Triumphant mix. Ugh she has so much good material lol. I would say Always Be My Baby and I Still Believe are probably my top remix EPs though. This album has grown on my tremendously since I first heard it. Beautiful and The Art of Letting Go were the songs that really made me get into Mariah as an artist, songwriter and producer. This album is very different not just in the sense that it's modern production but also because the through line on the album is neither the lyrics nor the production. The through line are her vocals. She was clearly in her most agile state vocally after giving birth to the twins. I think part of the reason the album can seem a little messy is because of how long it took to put out. The amount of delays and reworks were probably annoying even for her, while also going through a rough marriage, she didn't get a divorce just yet but it was all on the brink of happening and I think that's something you can tell when listening to the album, because she's confused between love and hate. Another thing I'd like to point out is that most people don't realise that this album contains some of Mariah's most personal lyrics ever. Like she got really vulnerable on quite a few tracks mostly with sadness, anger or pettiness. I think we'd usually get one of each of these songs on the other albums but this one seemed to have a lot of them. I also say personal because a lot of the production seems very intentional on her behalf to go with specific words or sentences she sings. I realized a lot of this while re-listening to the album. I do agree with quite a few of your opinions especially with tracklisting. I feel like it could've been better. The angels advocate remix album getting scrapped sort of messed this album up a bit lol. I think skipping from Heavenly to Art of Letting Go would've been perfect.

Her stint with American Idol was supposed to help promote this album, instead, they sabotaged it with a certain female rapper whom I didn't know that she sang or whatever. Anyway, she could have collabed again with Pepsi and used her song "Thirsty" to promote this era. Personal fave from this album is YDKWTD. ❤❤❤

Yes! I was ready to go out when I saw this reaction. And i couln't leave without watching it! lol I think this album represents a lot of the "confusion" Mariah was living back then... It took so long for her to release this album, it seems like she took all this time to work on the layers of the sounds... That's why it sounds so "noisy" sometimes. But it's a really special album to me. I love "Faded", "You're Mine", "Heavenly", "You Don't Know What to Do", "Thirsty"... And "The art of letting go", which was supposed to be the title of the album, is soooooooo magic! The vocals, the lyrics, the sounds... One of my favorites ever. Oh, and it's Stevie Wonder playing the harmonica in "Make it look good" (he is Mariah's favorite singer/writer and she always dreamed of making a song with him). I hope Mariah realeases a new album soon, cause I want to see more of your reactions... lol

Meteorite it’s a not a House track, it’s actually based out of Eddie Kendricks ‘Goin Up In Smoke’ disco/soul record from 1976, the producer did a great job pulling out that sample and reusing the strings, bass and Eddies lead vocal It’s actually a Disco/Pop based instrumental, with R&B/Soul Vocals

This album was supposed to come out in 2012 - it was pushed back 9 times over 2 years. In the irony to end all ironies - Mariah originally pushed it back because Nick was sick in the hospital. He was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. When she re-emerged to push it in 2013 she broke her arm on a video shoot and had to push it back again, and again when her arm had nerve damage, then divorce.

I think that is the reason why I listen to it alot. It has a type of song for every mood I'm in or feeling I have. In terms of story telling, I agree that this might be her weakest album. For example Caution or daydream are very great albums and every song sounds fresh and cute but I also feel like they went the same direction with every song on those album which bores me 😃.

As a Mariah fanatic who is literally the biggest fan, unfortunately this is probably my least favourite album. There are some great songs like Faded and Heavenly but I just feel the album was quite disjointed and there were too many fillers and even after replaying it I just couldn’t get into it! It was also the first album where I truly truly thought that her voice had started to really change
