I don't know if you saw the play, but it did a better job of showing that Evan's intentions started out pure but then eventually became more selfish until the breaking point in Words Fail. In the play these thoughts and feelings were conveyed through conversations between Evan and an imaginary version of Connor in Evan's mind throughout the show. Sadly, they cut much of Connor's appearances (both real and imaginary) all so they could add a couple of stupid Oscar bait songs, and the story REALLY suffered as a result.

The movie was irredeemable to me when they didn't have Good For You. Just -- why!?! ☠️

This is so hilarious! I haven’t even seen the DEH movie and I don’t plan to unless it comes out on a streaming service I have. And they had the audacity to cut Good for You (my favorite song, and it’s also pretty plot essential)! The musical’s not my favorite in general, but cutting Good for You did it for me. At least with In the Heights, Lin knew he was too old and passed the torch to Anthony and it had a bunch of color. I still really like ITH even if I don’t agree with some of the changes because they were done mostly well.

Another bad thing about this movie is they didn't make Jared as sarcastic like ugh and yes I agree about Good for you song.that song slapped so hard

In the dialogue in the musical they do a way better job at showing how Evan was backed into a corner and felt obligated to lie to Connor’s family

My first thought when this movie was announced was that Andrew Barth Feldman would be the perfect Evan!

when the trailer for this movie came out, I pointed out how old Ben Platt looked and I didn’t think he was right for the part. And then a crap ton of people came at me, saying he’s not too old, older actors play teens all the time, he’s perfect for the role, and it’s his role and he’s gonna be great……who’s laughing now huh?

The moral of the play was mental health awareness should not be used to make yourself seem like a good person/become popular. It was based on how a kid who killed himself in their old school and everyone lied about him, pretending to be good friends with him. The movie uses mental health awareness to make the leading man famous. So morally speaking, making the movie is against the message of the original source material.

Every time you insult to break in a glove, my heart breaks a little more. In all seriousness though, the fact that they cut all of the parents songs rich with character depth that build the atmosphere of deh and replaced it when a frankly kind of shallow song for Alana really sucks. I’m all for further Alana character development but I kept waiting for her to pull in other peoples problems because it’s called “the anonymous ones” and then she only talked about herself. It just felt so off, idk. Not to mention the fact that I feel like they ruined both Heidi and Jared’s character but that’s a whole other story
@silverstarlightproductions12922 жыл бұрын
They MASSACRED Jared's character! The grossest mischaracterization I'd seen since live action Sokka in the movie-that-shall-not-be-named. And the way they portrayed Alana in the film was upsetting too because in the play she was neurodivergent coded but in the movie there was no trace of it. Coming from someone who is in fact neurodivergent, that was a HUGE missed opportunity for representation.

Would like to see you react to the Come From Away pro-shot, think it would be a lot more positive than this! Also, Diana the Musical that would be hilarious (how did they have the same director?)

While I totes agree with your comments about the movie and how garbage it was, I disagree about movie musicals as a whole. Theatre is going back to being super inaccessible after the pandemic and movies can be a gateway into better stuff. As for the good ones not being seen (which I think you should add Tick Tick Boom and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie to the list with ith and wss) I don’t think the problem itself is that they’re musicals. I think the problem is that we are in a global pandemic still and people don’t feel safe going into movie theatres. Everyone and their grandmother (like literally grandmas cause old people are a huge part of the musical like fandom I guess) were so happy when the trailers came out for them before this stuff happened. It sucks.

see i don't think it was nearly as bad as everyone else says it is. it's still godawful and an insult to the musical, but there were elements i really liked. but you hit it on the head about the cut songs and this is why: cutting out "Anybody got a map" removes one of the precious few times we really see and interact with connor while he's alive. it removes cynthia and heidi's growing frustration with how helpless they feel they are to save their sons. this is the only time we see the murphys as a unit. which okay, i think i coulda forgiven that eventually. THIS SHIT RIGHT HERE THOUGH?! cutting "good for you" ruined whatever small good will the movie had built with me in one giant kick to the balls. it removes the one and ONLY real moment when evan finally realizes the damage he caused. it removes the catharsis of evan FINALLY getting called out by those he hurt, and this makes even LESS sense in the movie because they went out of their way to humanize Alana as a character. just showing evan scrolling through comments on his post and getting nasty looks at school does NOT COUNT AS CONSEQUENCES. oh boo hoo, we had four minutes of people frowning at you, he's truly repented. i would've forgiven most of the movie's sins if Good For You stayed, but because it's gone it retroactively makes every single little GODDAMN thing evan does in the first 2/3rd of the movie a LOT grosser.

I'm happy that you are back but I am not watching this full video I only heard half of it but turned it down I heard not much except for you saying this movie is the worse movie that you seen since Cats! That's about as far as I went never been able to see it yet. I still plan on giving it a chance though just not in treaters in no way am I wanting to waste good money like I did with The Lion King 2019 live action that I couldn't stand at all and also Cats movie. So to be on the safe side where I don't waste money on the Dear Even Hansen movie I will possibly when ever it comes on DVD I'll check it out at the library. Anyway for free just cause if I don't like it I would be really upset because that was bad! Waste of good money that could of possibly be spent on a better movie. I'm glad when Disney's Home Sweet Home Alone movie came out with more new aweful Home Alone characters at least it was free when it first came out claiming to be A Disney+ Orginal. I feel that movie should be another big roast made by you I really want to see that. Sorry I am like this with my comment I just want to go into Dear Even Hansen movie completely spoiler free.
