Your parodies seem to get more and more mean spirited with every video. What made you guys so great in the first place was that you did not outright hate on artists, but more made fun of them in a nice way. Really miss that

Well it's kinda hard to not hate on a song that's full of hatred.

To be honest, in terms of insulting the artist they've stayed pretty much the same in intensity, but now that they are more popular they have to adhere to certain copyright laws, meaning before they could just say one thing about the artist, like, "before I leave I stop and vomit out tequila and glitter," which is pretty harsh but all in good fun since it was only once or twice in the video just to poke a little exaggerated fun at them. But now they are required by law to essentially only comment on the artist or else it technically doesn't count as a parody, that's why they can't do it like they used to a get really creative, because then all their hard work would be removed for copyright infringement. I wish it was different though :)

That's not how copyright laws work in regards to fair use. With a parody, you comment on the material being parodied. You are not limited to commenting on the artist, nor is there a limit to how far you can take it. There are four factors that determine whether a parody falls under fair use: Purpose and character Nature of the work Amount and substantiality Potential effect on the market All four factors are evaluated before a decision is made, and no one factor will make the determination.

Literally the first thing to come up when you Google the word is the Wiktionary (en.wiktionary.org/wiki/artist) It CLEARLY STATES that artist means one of 4 things, one of them being a recording artist which is a singer. Among the other definitions of artists are the song writers, the composers and everybody else involved in creating the music and lyrics. I do not know why you want to have this stupid, silly argument about the definition of the word artist, but seeing as I am a native English speaker I can vouch for the fact that the word artists INCLUDES singers. It's a ridiculously common word and I don't understand why you'd argue against its usage. I mean, parodies aim to ironize and poke fun of certain themes/people. I wouldn't say this song would be consider harsh or hateful. It's just a simple parody. I don't think they rally hate anyone or hate on anyone deliberately as that isn't the intent at all.

They actually addressed this a few years ago, they legally can't make parody's that aren't a comment on the video or song. Weird Al can, mostly because he can just call up the artist, KOA has a strict set of guidelines they have to follow in order to avoid copyright strikes. :)

Parodies have protected status under copyright law, but if a derivative work doesn't make some sort of comment about the original song or artist, it's technically not a parody. If somebody gets permission from the copyright holder of the original work (as Weird Al does), then it doesn't matter whether the derivative work fits the legal definition of a parody or not.
