she's just a properly trained singer, unlike the majority of pop singers. It isn't magic, just proper technique. She still tends to eat the mic which must have driven the engineers crazy. An SM57 is insensitive enough to handle a proper singer but the levels have to be right. College trained singers tend to know where to hold the mic so the engineer doesn't have to change the levels every time you pick up the mic. For me, it is about 3 1/2 ft away from my mouth at about a 45 degree angle. In the pop world, it is a miracle to get singing this competent in the first place. But, yeah, most pop singers have zero idea what they're doing and lean on the electronics to produce sound. I've heard better drunken karaoke performances from amateurs than your average Top 40 singer. Don't even get me started on country...All I have to do to sing country well is channel my inner redneck, ham it up and use my worst singing technique, basically do everything the opposite of how I was trained. I get standing ovations when I sing karaoke simply because I know what I'm doing. I'm not exactly Pavarotti.

Yeah, she and Robert Plant could've been siblings, as I see it.. she's amazing, even when she lashes out with some high notes her voice ''feels'' nice to my eardrum, even though you can feel the power. That's not only tecnique, that's also talent

I moved to Seattle in January of 1977. Needless to say I heard lots of Heart. The ladies are tremendous musicians, no doubt. But here is something that perhaps many people don't know. At 'home' in the PNW they stayed 'local'. By that I mean they weren't too big to play smaller venues. Hell, they even played the state fair where you could see them for $10 (or something equally ridiculous) They never forgot how they got started and who their first fans were. Great musicians, even greater people.

The extended intro by Nancy is a joy. Flamenco style, then blues, funk, back to flamenco. I was 16 when they burst onto the scene. Bought the vinyls & cranked it up! Here, I note that A & N are fashionably dressed, but the guys are wearing the "low-cut tops". Ann & Nancy didn't have to perform half-naked to draw attention, their raw talent was more than enough. Ann's vocals range from tenderness to sheer power! At the end as guitarists are blasting around the stage, they had to remember that their guitars were plugged in! Couldn't trip over the cords, or become unplugged. Pretty amazing to watch them do this successfully!

@bobwhy16638 жыл бұрын
+ComfortBlades Funny you should compare Ann with Freddie. I went to see Queen supported by Heart at Milton Keynes about 30 years ago. Due to some blagging i got back stage and bumped into Roger Taylor. He was so chilled and he asked if i wanted his autograph. I said yeah great but I'd realy like Nancy's. He was maybe a little surprised but was cool and i got to meet Ann and Nancy. Talked to them for all of 5 seconds before i got removed. Never saw Freddie though. But was still amazing. The gig was great

@nashvillevaper52398 жыл бұрын
+ComfortBlades - I've always been a big Queen fan, as well as a Heart fan. Saw both bands in the 70s (Heart in 1977, Queen in 1978) and both were fantastic shows. Freddie was, of course, the consummate charismatic front man. And his singing was great for the most part, but honestly his vocals just didn't hold up live the way they did on record. They weren't bad, far from it, but there was a quality drop that was noticeable from time to time (I recorded that show for my own personal use and have listened to it countless times over the years, so I do remember it very well). But that really didn't matter because the SHOW itself was so great. I certainly heard no complaints from anyone after the concert, that's for sure. By contrast, Ann Wilson live back then was just unbelievable. There was absolutely no drop in vocal quality and if anything her vocals were better live than on record. And, needless to say, she was also the epitome of the charismatic performer. One thing to note in this clip is at 3:58 when Ann bends her head down and hits that sustained note. Now THAT is impressive. Heart was definitely one of the best live bands of the 70s. No doubt about it.

It’s “crazy” to hear this after quite a while and realize what a great song it is and what a great musical arrangement and performance. But, for me personally it is absolutely “crazy” to think back to when it was first released and that it was just another “good” song getting radio play at the time. To me, it is an example of how much truly awesome talent and music there was back then. Yeah I guess I’ve become one of those old dudes talkin’ ‘bout the good ol’ days.

Marty, they were the going old days. Nothing wrong with looking back. That’s what’s nice about growing old. The memories. We’re blessed because there will never be music like this ever again. The times back then were simpler. All you needed was good friends, FM radio and a job. Do I miss them? Sure. You want to know something cool? Sometimes I can’t remember where I parked my car. But play a song from 50 years ago, and I can remember every lyric, every note, every guitar riff. I thank God that I’m still here and can remember. I thought that I could go back and relive some of those days. You can’t. The music is still there but the people I looked up were nothing like the people I remember partying with. I have a new life. Jesus came into my life at a time when I was headed for one of two places. Jail or the grave. Gave my life to Jesus and its been one amazing journey. It’s time same today. Everyone is headed for one of two places. Heaven or Hell. For ten years I lived in hell. Needle marks on my arms and empty whiskey bottles on the kitchen table. I had enough. Where are you going? Accept Jesus into your life and there won’t be any doubt. Even if you don’t believe in Heaven and Hell, and you say to yourself “I’m a good person,” can your be 100% sure where you’ll spend eternity? Just something to think about. Stay safe , stay well Marty.

I have Nancy's pick. It was in the 80's when me and my buddies would travel throughout New England hitting up Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Yngwie, Dokken and such. We were used to a tougher crowd to get up front, so when Heart came around with general admission seating we easily made our way to the front. I was right in front of Nancy the whole time, and she tossed me her pick. Best moment of my young life.

I was right in front as a child of around 19 years old and was astonished by Nancy's ability on the acoustic. Never in my life have heard such remarkable playing as Nancy was doing. Oh I must admit both Wilson sisters were astonishingly beautiful, but I was there for the music and to this day do not regret going to that show. It was one of my first concerts it ever seen. And before going into the military. This is July, 2022 and "Crazy On You" still kicks since 1970's. Wow, they truly hit the scene back then, in my opinion still kick today. Thank you Wilson sisters, for opening my mind to facts that women can rock n roll, as good if not sometimes better.
