They were actually invented by Curt Lindquist in 1949 while working in a sausage skin- and sponge factory (korvskinns- och tvättsvampsfabrik) in Norrköping. He gave it the name Wettex (Abbrevation of "wet" and "textile"). So Wettex is actually the original! If a sausage skin- and sponge factory sounds like a weird combo, it's because both things were made of cellulose, I think.

I looked at this company's ads on IG today and they responded to someone's comment about the lower prices on Ebay and Amazon by stating that these towels (papaya brand) are superior to the cheaper Swedish dish towels, claiming that their product goes through rigorous testing, lasts longer, and is of greater quality. They state that the hole for hanging is unique to their brand along with the included hook. Sounds like they are trying to scam people.

Omg! Thank you so much for this video!! I ran into those same instagram adds and got interested in the product, after going on their website and seeing the prices, I decided to check some reviews first to see if it was worth it. That's when I run into your video. I'm Brazilian, living in Canada, and had never heard about "swedish dishcloths" before. I just threw this term on Amazon and found tons of options!! Bought a 6 pack for 14 dollars. I like the idea of supporting a Canadian brand, and try to do so as much as possible, but 44 CAD (the price as of today) for a 4 pack is a bit too much. So, for my Canadian friends, if you can't find local, just go to Amazon and be happy. Those products are really amazing, I'm happy I discovered it. And thank you again for calling this out!!

Wow this is RIDICULOUS!!! Thank you for posting this. I was curious to purchase and I’m so glad I came here. One thing that I’ve purchased from instagram is kizik, and I love my shoes. They are a bit overpriced but the shoes are a dream.

THANK YOU FOR SAVING US MONEY! I was in their website, totally thrown bc of the ad I saw in IG. I was thinking to buy the pack of 2 for $20. But I kinda remember I have used something similar before and maybe can buy it in a dollar store. Good I did some research and saw your video.

Apparently Papaya has patented the ‘hook’ they sell with these. But yeah, it’s weird they don’t mention that they are Swedish Discloths

Thank you! Swedish dish cloths! I was just about to buy some of these papayas from Instagram cause I hate wasting (but it seemed too sketchy with the flashy marketing and hype)

I am so glad I saw this. They reminded me of the dish cloth we have in Germany but I thought the Papaya ones were somehow special, since they prices are so ridiculous. You get a 5pack in Germany for 95 Cents lol

I asked if it was similar to sweden dish cloth and they are trying to sale it can be hung up with the hook they provide. Other than that you showed in this video the material is similarly to Sweden clothes. Basically seems I would be paying for a hole and hooks. 😆As a KZbin Personality have you did a comparison would be nice to see a video compating the two. Here is their response which they did not answer it to my comment but replied on FB messager. Yep skeptical. Hi Lakeisha! Our Reusable Paper Towels are similar to traditional Swedish dish cloths, but are SO MUCH BETTER! Unlike some of those cheaper options that range in quality, ours are made with the highest quality materials, so they clean better, are more durable and last longer! 🌱 Most importantly, unlike any other Swedish dish cloth you'll find, Papaya is the ONLY brand that comes with a hole cut out of the corner, and includes a hanging hook with each set! This is the Papaya difference that creates a WAY better user experience. No more hanging them to dry over your faucet or leaving them wet and soggy in your sink! Based on feedback from customers who have tried similar products without the hook, the hook truly makes all the difference! It’s conveniently there to grab whenever you need it, it’s the perfect storage spot when you're not using it, and it also helps it dry quicker which inhibits the growth of bacteria so it doesn’t get that mildewy dish cloth smell! 🌱 We also work with, and compensate local artists to print their beautiful patterns on our cloths, so they look cuter hanging in your kitchen! 🌱Lastly, unlike many Swedish dishcloths that come packaged in cheap plastic that end up in the landfill, we try and ensure our packaging is as sustainable as possible - using recyclable cardboard and shipping in 100% compostable mailers! All of these extras and care we take in creating our product do increase the price over buying a cheaper Amazon version, but we hope you'll give ours a try and experience the difference for yourself :)✨
I tried reusable paper towels…and it didn’t quite go how I thought
