Mean arterial pressure (MAP) calculation formula explained for nursing students and nurses.
What is a mean arterial pressure (MAP)?
Mean arterial pressure is the pressure in your arteries during one cardiac cycle, and it tells us how well the vital organs (like the renal system, brain etc.) are being perfused. In addition with the brain, the MAP is very important when calculating the cerebral perfusion pressure.
The MAP should be greater than 65 mmHg.
Normal 70-100 mmHg

It is not a bad idea moving to US for nursing lots of jobs or even to Canada lot of shortage of nurses plus now the Canadian RN exam and US RN exam is same NCLEX and in Canada it is unlimited attempt. Just try try until you pass before it was only 3 attempts. I am writing my NCLEX soon in couple of months! Good luck on your journey!

In case you guys are mathematician doctors, then this equation is derived from the Linear Interpolation (aka. lerp), Originally: Since, f(x) = y = mx+c (equation of straight line). Then, recall two points (x0) and (x1), then Δy = y1 - y0 = (m x1 + c) - (m x0 + c) = m (x1 - x0). Then, (m) designate a scalar multiple of (x1 - x0). Then, f(Δx) = m (Δχ) + C ;where C denotes the vertical distance from the initial position (reference point). Since, for most of the cardiac cycle the blood pressure is (1/3) times the pulse pressure... Then, f(Δχ) = m (x1 - x0) + C MAP = scalar * (SP - DP) + DP Graphically, this could be a point between 2 points on the same straight line, or a point between 2 parallel straight lines (the graphical representation of the arterial pusle from the physiology textbooks)... Very cool! Isn't it?

Hi Sarah, very informative. Good news, my MAP is 80, BP was 106/67 so 67x2=134+106=240/3=80. Not too shabby for a 70 year old dude, lol. Thanks for the video! Just curious, do doctors look at the MAP as a more accurate measure of high blood pressure over say the traditional BP measures, i.e. systolic over diastolic.
@tomaoekanem8047
@tomaoekanem8047 6 жыл бұрын
Tony M it depends on what they're monitoring. For instance, in the ICU (where the patients bp might already be out of the normal range), the doctor is usually more concerned about the MAP because it gives a better indication of blood flow to the organs. For a non intensive, regular monitoring, a regular bp is sufficient to monitor the pressure in the veins and ateries and provide information on the stress on them. Monitoring the bp in this instance is to help prevent cardiac problems later on. Hope this helps!
