I worked in Storybook Circus for attractions Spring 2018 and I remember hearing that story in the break room. From what I heard she had lost her wallet and was blaming/threatening cast members so managers and security had to get involved. Managers and security were going around the circus area trying to find her wallet. They kept coming up to the rides to see if we had it. Apparently they also took the woman to the Dumbo play tent to see if it was in there and she just fell to the ground crying. I'm not sure how true this part is, but not too long after they left the play tent she hit one of the security guards and took off. This is just what I heard so I won't say this is definitely what happened, but it's Disney World so crazy stories like this are pretty normal.

This isn't about a rude guest, but it's one of my favorite memories. I was working at World of Disney during the spring of 2018, and this family, mom, dad, two kids, comes up asking where they can find Pandora merchandise. In keeping with the Disney magic, I politely said "I'm sorry, but the Na'vi are very protective of their artifacts, and will only allow them to be sold on-planet." The youngest son went wide-eyed, and he then noticed I only have one arm, so he asked what happened to my arm. I got creative and told him this story about how one of the viperwolves on Pandora attacked me and took my other arm and most of my fingers on the arm I still have. He thought it was so cool and was just smiling. It made my sadly brief time as a Cast Member memorable interacting with the guests.

7:35 this is why you lay the bill horizontally over your open drawer or on your keyboard in their sight as you count out their change and wait to make sure there isn’t a problem before putting the bill away. This will head off scammers or forgetful people before it gets to the point of arguing about having managers count drawers. And “Stacy” is a miserable person. It’s hard working with someone like that, but you have to not let it affect you and keep being your best, and it’ll just make them look worse-even if it feels like no one else is recognizing their behavior, they are.
@olivia_simone6 жыл бұрын

Olivia Simone Cutting off someone isn't nice. Even if she's not as friendly as you are doesn't give you the right to cut in. Give Stacey a chance to handle it, if she doesn't mention the fact that it's delivered to the gift shop, speak to Stacey and NICELY say to her, "Stacey, as far as I know, they are sent to the hotel gift shop." Maybe the guest should check there. THAT'S being a team player. That's what management looks for, to be helping others on your team. Not you taking the easy way out and getting instant gratification/praise from the guest. Don't BE THAT PERSON. That's why she gave you that look. Maybe she forgot. Maybe she's not mean but has insecurity issues or ADD or is having a problem at home. Did you bother to even ask her or try to form a repore with Stacey? If not, then you're not the Above and Beyond kind of person that gets promoted in your career. Be exceptional. Make an effort where it's easy to follow the herd. Don't trash talk other employees, they could be your boss one day. Gossip isn't a Disney Princess trait. Gandhi said, "BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD." Especially when no one is watching and you don't get likes or thumbs up for it. 🙏

Retired Florida cop here; Tear drop tattoos are common of people who have been in jail or prison- however lots of wanna-be thugs have gotten them as well, to make them seem "hard". They used to stand for "I murdered someone and went to prison for it"- but they also were popularized by people who lost someone while in jail/prison, for people who were doing time for any crime against persons, and, like I said, eventually they became popular by gang members and wanna be thugs, to make themselves appear tough. If you look at the tattoo, and it's dark black- crisp edges, etc- ie- it was done in a tattoo shop instead of in prison by someone with a rig they made themselves- the quality is usually much more clear, and much more vibrant. So an older, faded,grey'd blurry teardrop likely has a lot more "legitimacy" than a new, fresh one. While many prison tattoos are common- there's nothing stopping any (idiot) from getting one.

It's because of these stories that I hear on various YT videos and the fact that my bf works security for WDW that I strive to treat each CM that I come across with as much kindness as possible. I get the whole "making the magic" thing, but holy cow people, Cast Members are human too! I remember one morning at Hollywood Studios they were doing maintenance on Toy Story Mania (pre-TSL opening), and there was a CM at the staircase to get down to the Pixar Place area and she was telling people that the ride was closed. One family whipped around and started S C R E A M I N G at her that because TSM was closed now their entire vacation was ruined. Like they were grilling the poor girl and pretty much announcing their displeasure to the whole park. It was awful to witness, and makes me really sad that these occurrences are so common. You CMs are tough cookies, don't let their comments bring you down 💙

Yes! Treat customer service folks with kindness, because someone is going to be a jerk to them for no reason, and I think this is especially true at Disney and other vacation spots. My feeling bad for a CM story was at the Carousel of Progress about 5 years ago. Our CM said it was her first time doing the Carousel of Progress, and then the ride proceeded to glitch very, very, very badly. We watched each of the scenes like 4 or 5 times. It started off repeating scenes because of the glitch, and continued resetting because idiots were getting out of their chairs and being unsafe. I remember one guy in particular, this big guy who was there with his family, running to the exit door and pounding on it while screaming like a crazy person (angry screaming, not scared screaming). It was like, if my very pregnant self (that badly needs to pee) can stay in my seat so we can get off this ride faster, your butt can stay in your seat too! It took well over 45 minutes to get off Carousel of Progress, and I saw several people complaining to the poor CM. As if they thought she was unaware that it sucked getting stuck on that ride, or was any way her fault. It was the closest I've ever seen a CM get to looking truly upset. I smiled at her as we were leaving, to show her that we weren't all crazy, and she just kind of grimaced back. Poor girl! I've never ridden Carousel of Progress again. ;) And the music gives me flashbacks, LOL.

8:53 that woman was almost certainly trying to scam you, and her kids foiled the plan. People often try to say they gave you a larger bill in order to get more change than they should. I'm guessing she just didn't want to press it in front of her kids since the kids were honest.

You do know that the second account (with the "i gave you a 20 not a 10" stuff) is a common sleight of hand trick to scam stores out of the money and make a profit in return right? If not, you do now. So dont feel bad about it. especially with the daughter jumping in so late at the point where you're starting to insist on getting the manager.

The classic "you're ruining my vacation" line!!! I worked at Jolly Holiday Bakery at Disneyland in Spring 2018. So at Disneyland we have these little BPA warnings on counters and walls and pretty much everywhere in the park since it's a law in California (not sure about Florida). This lady and her son (probably about 10-12 (I'm bad with ages too haha)) came up to my register and she ordered a coffee. I did the transaction, gave her her receipt, and then her son looks down at the warning and rudely asked me if we have BPA in our restaurant. I said yes, it's in a lot of plastic in the park and it's a general warning. The mother then looks at me, disgusted, and says "I don't want him to be exposed to that!!!" Keep in mind he didn't order anything!!! I didn't really know what else to say to them so I asked if she wanted a refund on the coffee and she continued to argue with me for about 10 minutes, and by that point everyone in line was silently watching this happen, and my friend got involved and the cash lead ended up coming out and talking to her. She asked for both of our names and reported us to City Hall hahahahhaha

Hey Olivia, My family and I a huge Disney World fanatics and all of us have enjoyed your Disney related vlogs a bunch. We had an awesome trip Jan 5th - 11th at WDW, we stayed at Old Key West! It was great, the vacation of a lifetime for us. We didn't know that we should check in at the resort first so when we got to the Magic Kingdom our Magic Bands didn't work. We ended up in line at guest services, the line was oppressively long, so long that the young lady who was the cast member there had to put tape down on the ground to keep the line flowing in the proper direction. A "gentleman" who was a guest was apparently losing his mind over the size of the line. He was so rude to the young lady I could barely stand it. Kept calling her "that chubby blond girl" through out all this she was nothing but kind and respectful to him. Anyway as I was about to exit the line I made it a point to tell her that I was very impressed by her poise in handling this buffoon (making sure he heard me) my son snapped a pic of him at that moment, classic. We laughed at him all week. I just don't understand people who treat cast members like that. I can't tell you how many times I've seen Disney cast members bend over backwards to make sure people have an awesome experience, a huge part of the reason that Disney is the happiest place on earth. :-)

Girl I am having flashbacks to things I’ve seen during my time as a pass holder. It’s so crazy how evil people can be towards CM’s. I remember one time I was in line for a meet with Donald and Donald’s handler told the line that he had to leave but will be returning in one hour back to this spot. This couple with a toddler behind me went ballistic. And it wasn’t even late in the day, it was 10:30am! The mother started cussing the CM out and actually made her kid cry😢 Thank God she just left. But I was horrified. I was the last person for Donald at that time and I went up and took a quick selfie. I walked over to the CM that got yelled at and said I’m so sorry you had to go through that, and he just smiled and said “hey, part of the job but thanks”. It’s so sad how people think that because they paid a lot that they’re entitled to be jerks.

A lot of rides even have a little pouch or pocket or something, in front of you or under the seat, that you can put stuff! I usually zip open my backpack and put all lose items (hat, sunglasses, earphones, FRS radio) in it then put the bag at my feet and place my shoes ON TOP of the straps just to be sure. It's a quick maneuver and I can get it all done before they're even done checking all the seat belts or restraints. Never lost a thing! (I also have a retaining strap on my glasses and I just pull the little rubber grommet up to tighten them to my face like a sport strap.)

Attractions @ Disneyland for 7+ years here...(Indiana Jones Adventure, sister attraction of Dinosaur) regarding lost items it's very much the same as the way its handled in WDW. We can't stop the attraction for item retrieval, has to be picked up at Guest Relations the following day, or at the end of the night if the item is of high value...it happens multiple times per day and we are constantly speiling to every vehicle that is loaded with guest, multiple times, by multiple CMs, to stow and secure belongings to prevent them from being lost in the attraction. However, even though it does greatly reduce the number of items lost, no matter how much speiling we do, some guests will still lose items...and most understand that stopping the ride is not an option, but every once in a while, a lead or manager will have to deliver the reality of the situation to the guest when they aren't being receptive to the first CMs explanation.

If somehow we could remind them of the mild pang of pain they felt when forking out the money for that cellphone... they might actually consider putting it away!

Sorry for being out of date, but i had a question about your time performing as a friend of some of our favorite characters... You've talked about doing meet & greets and character meals, but were you ever called on to be part of the parades? I assume you couldn't do the shows, since that would require knowledge of choreography and cues, but since a lot of characters in the parades just ride the floats and wave to guests, is that also done by the department you worked for, or is there a separate group of CMs who perform in the parades? Just curious.

I've had to handle people like these before, working in retail is a nightmare but you get some interesting stories out of it. I was working on a front register and these two men came up to check-out, normal blah blah. The first man wanted a 25 dollar gift card for a birthday and I told him that we didn't have any that said happy birthday(the guy was so nice about it and said it was fine and bought it), I believe we just had left over christmas cards but his friend lost his mind over that. He starts shouting at me like, how long have you been here, do you even know how to do your job, I'm going to tell your manager(after snatching the card from his friend giving him more money to replace the card he just bought and paid for his stuff with it). Both the guy who bought the card and I watched him like he was crazy but I pointed out my manager because I hadn't done anything wrong anyways so I wouldn't get in trouble. They storm off after the guys friend yells some more, I could see him talking with my manager and I never heard anything afterwards because it was so petty. I just don't understand people like that, even if he was having a bad day taking it out on someone who is just trying to help you isn't going to make it better. Isn't the worst thing to happen but it is one that stands out the most because it was just so dumb.
@olivia_simone6 жыл бұрын
ugh! Seriously, like why be angry about something that's not worth getting mad over?! and YES sometimes people are like "I'm going to tell your manager" and it's like lady, I did nothing wrong, I will call him myself right now if you want. geez people are crazy!!! Thanks so much for sharing your story!

A lot of people use retail as therapy to have someone to yell at and order around who can't fight back or they lose their job... it's really sad. My mother used to eat out explicitly to order around the wait staff and lean on them to get them to go through extra hoops just for her... I was always afraid they would spit on our food or something, and I eventually refused to go out in public with her, even IF she was going to take me somewhere nice... it wasn't worth it.

Your answers are very helpful & appreciated. I'm trying to find out all much as I can about interviewing with Disney, history, housing & what to expect when working there in the future as a cast member. In a little over 5 years I’m going retire from my current career & move there to work at Disney World. I’m learning so much about Disney that I did not know and am absorbing tons of Disney culture. I’ve been to the parks several times throughout my life and am very excited about the future plans for all of them. I love the Disney feeling of being treated special and knowing that the cast members will take care of me. I want to be part of passing that same feeling on to other guests that want to be treated as the only guests in the world. Do you know of any nice areas where I might look that are close to the parks if I want to buy a house, condo or town home? Do you have any advice on things that I can read that might help me get a Disney position in the future? Should I try to make contact with Disney employees that might give me a reference when I apply for positions? I would appreciate your help with any of this. Thanks again for all of your Disney insight & passion.
