Yeah, people that cant find love should love themselves then people will love them when that hard work turns to admiration. But alot of times that distaste and disrespect can have a reverberation effect inside the individual. If love is like 2 flames coming together then in order to love, you have to first start with sparking a fire within yourself. Thall shall not kill, thall shall not covet thy neighbors wife and 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV) and Ephesians 5:29-30 (ESV)

Good grief, *amazing* advice/teaching. And i'm not even Jewish. I have an adopted child who fits this description of a child left insecure because of the detachment at birth (when a baby is abandoned, after "knowing" the birth mother for 9 months, then being torn away, abandoned). She is an amazing girl, loving, successful, etc, but has always had an underlying sadness or insecurity, questions about "why would a woman give up her child?" etc. She loves us, but she still seems puzzled by the question, and some underlying hurt is in there somewhere, i believe. So this hit home. I'm so grateful he/you are teaching this, making people aware of the emotional security every baby/child needs from its mother, and this whole abandonment issue.
@debst.george4437

I too have a boy I adopted and I couldn't feel more love for him but he feels the same because of rejection from the birth woman. I cannot call her a mother because she's never acted like one and I don't understand her at all. I could never reject my child that way. 😢Very Sad. I feel It from him and I hurt for him. 🫂💖😪
@vickielewallen3799

@@debst.george4437 Well those birth moms' loss is our gain and treasure, isn't it. (I don't think my daughter's birth mom could help it, though, in her situation). But an adopted child might always feel some kind of subconscious loss, who knows. Anyway its good that this rabbi talks about this subject and how it can affect an abandoned and/or adopted child.

I was raised by my birth mom, but also have attachment issues. I grew up always feeling like she didn’t love me. For some reason, she never could bond with me, and I apparently felt it. My dad says I would cry every time she held me, so she always just left to my father to take care of. I feel very close to him, but a mother’s love is necessary, and a child can tell when it’s not there. We have a good relationship, but’s more of a friendship now, instead of the deep love I feel for my dad. Sometimes, adoption is the better option. At least your adopted child grew up with a loving parent.

Too often love is a transaction. Children raised by an emotionally immature parent learn this lesson early. If you give only to keep them happy and loved, you are doing it for survival. You spend a lifetime giving to others instead of giving to yourself. And you never realize it because to you this is familiar. The blessing in this is you learn to be independent , capable, and strong. The down side is you have to come to a video to find what you missed!

My parents never abandoned me but, different people throughout my life did. Maybe then I shouldn’t feel abandoned and I do. It’s very hard. It’s the jealousy that did it to me. Jealous people of me being more lucky. I turned out emotional that they left me. I’m starting to understand it’s not my problem it’s them and their insecurity not mine. I just was so attached to them because I loved them. I still do.

Instead of my usual comments, I'm going to quote two songs about love that I think pretty much say it all: The first one is by a rock group called Sweet and it goes like this (please excuse the paraphrasing): "Love is like oxygen. If you get too much, you get too high. Not enough, and you're going to die." The other is by Crosby, Stills and Nash and it goes like this: "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with." Sometimes you have to make the first move. Only your fear is stopping you.

My Mother left when I was very young, she took the 3 older children with her , left my little sister and I behind. There has always been a horrible Deep Rooted feeling of not being enough for anyone in this world , and becoming co-dependent, and an over giver to earn love and trust from other. Those feelings , turned into self hatred over time. It's taken a long time , and alot of work ,on my part , to undo and relearn self love and exceptance, so I didn't hurt my own children in the same way. Thank you for this Beautiful Teaching , and one I will most likely will come back and listen too , several times. Blessings always 💗

Give freely or not at all. "Capacity" for this abundance is derived from self-integrity. Our relationships with others are a reflection of the one we have with ourselves. Giving what we need with an expectation of fulfilling reciprocation by another is misguided. Direct those efforts and intentions towards awareness and acceptance of the self (integrity). Abundance is achieved when we are satisfied. Love has no limits. Do not fear "losing" love.

What we really suffer from in this life, is our separation from our heavenly Father. We feel that loss and emptiness every day and we fill our lives with sometimes good things and sometimes bad things to fill in the gap. As a child, He gave me "moments" that as I grew older, looking back at those times, pointed out to me that he has always been in my life and continues to this day. I'm so very thankful for what he has done.
