At the beginning, the street sign says How's St. How's Street is in Bethnal Green in East London, just north of Spitalfields and near Shoreditch. And the canal where he says 'ah carnt git froo' is the Limehouse section of the Regents Canal, which is also in East London, around Limehouse/Stepney. East London has changed quite a lot in the topography and a lot of the older buildings have been demolished or replaced, but the residents that lived in Bethnal Green and Limehouse etc back 35-40 years ago have largely moved out to the suburbs and they have been mostly replaced by very different types of people.

Nothing wrong with your English, the accents are difficult enough to follow, but then you have the characters using slang terms and they tend to mumble a lot due to the realistic acting style. Also, the black guy talks in Rasta/Patois at some points

The language he uses is Rasta/Patois. Oldman uses a racial slur as part of his joke which is what leads the man with the hat (Hepburn Graham) to whack Oldman. I'm not sure what Graham says first, but it sounds like "call me anything but that". But then he speaks in Rasta/Patois when he calls Oldman "a dirty, peel-head raas" (which I think means 'a dirty, bald-headed arse')

It's a broken English called patois which was kind of diluted with more English by the younger Windrush generation . The older guys took me at least a year to understand their conversations
@Shiteoutlander434
@Shiteoutlander434 4 ай бұрын
This way of speaking has spawned a whole new patois, 'metropolitan integrated english' which is now used by both black and white kids in poorer, mixed areas. It's a beautiful thing.
