Love mine used it a lot for years, but thought you may have another nifty use to show me for it. I use my metal one for marking the centre (in the slit) and length of button holes as well. The clover one has a clear spot for your finger or a push pin and a hole on the dark green bit in the slit for a pencil, to draw an accurate circle. I saw that on yt a few days ago. You can also use the width of the ruler to draw a line at half an inch and the slit is a quarter inch from the side. All the best.

Thanks for the tips😊, I encourage my students to use the simple measurement gauges just to understand fractions a bit easier. I actually prefer using a clear ruler, I think it got ingrained in me during design school pattern drafting classes 🤔.

Thank you. At around 1 minute 38 seconds you mentioned that the kids moving the slider back and forth would cause it to slip. I was given one of these gauges that was purchased from a yard sale and was a bit worn - the slider easily slipped from about zero to 1 1/2 inches. (The slider is made of metal, not plastic.) I used a pair of pliers, set one jaw on top of the loop and the other jaw on the underside of the gauge, opposite the loop, and gently squeezed. Now the slider will stay where I put it. You need to apply pressure very gently, then try the slider. If still too loose, apply slightly more pressure until the slider works as you wish. Thanks again for the informative video.

Thank you. Yes, it's so frustrating how they do not stay tight for long. I'll try your method, hope it works! Thank you ☺️

I use my gauge to mark the inches , then I get a longer ruler that will accommodate a longer space & the longer for the marking ! The reason I don’t use the acrylic rulers for marking, is bcoz some of them with yellow or white numbers, I can’t see , they’ll slip when cutting with rotary! I’ve had my seam gauges for years , until a customers kid got a hold of 2 of them & bent them 😢! I straightened out the best I could, the red or blue sliders don’t stay ! I get a grey tape add to the back & voila , still useable ! The kids mom sat on my new pair of $400 eyeglasses 😮, said she’d pay for them to be repaired, never saw her again! I think it’s better that way !

Wow, ya gotta keep your workroom kid friendly these days. Never know when chaos can happen! They have a new version of the clear ruler, it has bigger numbers and a clear space on one side of it. Makes it much easier to see. Good luck with your projects 👍 🙂

I thought you were supposed to use a pen through that little hole at the top if the metal ones? It is over an inch to compensate for extra length beyond the dot. Otherwise it would be slightly larger than your intended measurement?

Yes, with a pin you have to be sure it doesn't move back.

I'm working on a pattern that requires me to place twill tape 1/16th (2mm) from the edge. For accuracy, how would I find that measurement on the seam gauge?
@FutureFashionDesigners
@FutureFashionDesigners 8 ай бұрын
1/16 is half of 1/8. So small it's not on most gauges. It is in the clear ruler though. So tiny you may have to just place the edge a HAIR away from the edge.

I’m so embarrassed to say that I’ve had the yellow one for a few years and forgot how to accurately measure with it so I used the other one however it slips as you said and marks are all over the place

Oh my, same here! If you don't work with it often you have to figure out how to use it again. It is a bit confusing for sure! I like to use the clear ruler most of the time.

Thank you so much for showing this. I have all these tool & a new sewing machine but had no idea how to use it. Don't even how to read measurements. I keep hearing in the videos 1/4 seamallowance. What the heck is that?. Can you show me where is 1/4 on that black gauge??
@FutureFashionDesigners
@FutureFashionDesigners Жыл бұрын
1/4 inch is 2 of the little marks in. Each little mark is 1/8. 2/8 equals 1/4. You may want to review some videos about fractions. Seems we use fractions a lot in sewing. On the black gauge there is a punch hole on the first 1/8 so the next one over is 1/4 inch.. You may find the video about the clear ruler helpful here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHbLeJKNfa6igZo
