Source Measurement Units, or SMUs, combine an accurate power supply, high-power electronic load, and precise digital voltmeter into a signal unit. They are a four-quadrant source. That means they can provide power to a circuit or consume it. With an SMU you can characterize semiconductor devices (like Diodes), monitor the power consumption of a circuit, or simulate a battery. Everything a SMU does that makes them useful to the average embedded systems nerd is available with the NRF "Power Profiler Kit II". If you're watching this with drool dripping from your chin chances are the NRF PPK2 will get you about half way to this cool equipment with a little less accuracy and precision, but most importantly the price is 99% less too. If 4 quadrant is needed you can measure upstream and use a battery. So if you are looking for a tax write off then the SMU is your choice but for everyone else check out the Nordic Semiconductor NRF-PPK2.

Great device for new projects! But price is not friendly.. In reality, it's shocking high! I better continue in old way with multiple test gear for one operation.. 😂

A SMU is a very nice instrument but unfortunately it's extremely expensive

It really bugs me that the convention for DC negative is to call it "ground" or "earth". It's NOT THE SAME THING!!! Often the distinction is irrelevant, but sometimes it's mission-critical.
