It just shows no matter how long you have been doing it (and I have been doing it a long time) you can always learn some thing new. Great video thanks.

That method will get you there too. The geometry works fine and can be helpful to decide what size bowl you can make from a piece of wood before you ever cut. Just remember to account for the saw blade kerf in your measurements.

Your method will certainly work too. In fact, I programmed an Excel spreadsheet to make those calculations for me. I'm sure some will like your method better, so thanks for sharing.
I didn't understand a thing but I was glad to see that whe have the exact same pair of pliers (makes me feel not that stupid).

I don't think it was. Sycamore really looks great on face grain regardless of orientation. Since I'm turning a curve through it parts of it are bound to effectively become quarter-sawn in orientation.

Note to viewers: There is an active recall on radial arm saws. I was able to get $100.00 for my specific model.

this is new to me...the way I find out how long to cut my segments is to dscide what size bowl I wann to make...for example if ai want an eight inch bowl, I multiply 8 times pi. I carry pi to five decimal places (i.e. 3.14159) and then I devide the result by the number of segments I want..and that gives me the length of the segment I want. I then use a digital caliper to measure the segments and a sliding bevel gage to lay out my segments.

Cut to the same angle....so what is the angle dope? This guy is useless. Not giving numbers will not help.
@SegmentedTurner7 жыл бұрын
Since this is an 8-segment piece the cut angle is 22 1/2 degrees, just like Cecil describes below. I also state this in the video at about the 6:30 point.
