Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) is an ideal technique for measuring the grain size of materials on the micrometre to millimetre scale. Recent advances in detector technology, such as the fibre-optically coupled Symmetry S2 detector, deliver exceptionally high speed data collection that enables grain size measurements in just a few seconds. In this video we demonstrate how EBSD can be used to measure the grain size in a twinned austenitic steel sample, explaining some of the key parameters and showing the measurement tools available in both our AZtec acquisition platform and our new EBSD data processing software, AZtecCrystal.
