That well was the main supply of water for the house and as I recall, in those days it was connected to 2 large tanks that were always full of water. The technology of today is just amazing, what you have, would have made my uncle and aunt's lives much easier, back then , they lived without electricity and that well was their water supplier for the house, and they had a large family. Keep up the good work !!!!!!! Cheers from Canada !!!!!!

Wow, very cool! The Wellometer will be a game changer indeed. My only concern is protecting the box with batteries and electronics against the bright Portugal sun and heat in the summer. But I expect you are already a step ahead with plans to deal with that. And a weather station would be the frosting on the cake. You are very fortunate to have such helpful and kind friends. The small well is easy to see the changes. It mostly stays the same and is much shallower. A stick works for measuring that quite well. Oh no, I said it again! Well!

Great hack! Can you give the specifications of the setup you assembled? (Make and model of the several parts) I’d like to install a similar data logger to register our wells level because we just visit our property twice a year, and we wanted to understand the dynamics of the water sheet.

Tin snips come in handy but remember that they're manufactured in left and right handed articles. Hacksaw blades or any blade, the softer the material the coarser the pitch of teeth per inch, when cutting a soft thin piece of steel choose a very fine pitched blade. A wood saw or chainsaw have coarse pitched teeth for a reason.

That could make a great short movie! Call it the Green Well Swamp Monster Coming for you! He would need a ugly head (like the monster from the Black Lagoon, only green, large claw like hands, green swamp body and legs, oh and with a green tail like a croc if you please, LOL). Now that would be a short movie! With the misses running for the house and her swamp well shotgun, loaded with tranquilizer darts (just a paint ball gun, load with some red paint balls). We used to use a string with knots but we weren’t able to track the levels in a meaningful way. We still use a stick to measure the small well. 😊👍

How did you calibrate the transducer ?.

It’s a high end pressure transducer which doesn’t require calibration on setup unless high levels of accuracy or certification are required. It’s good enough for what we need at the moment.

I always wonder why the pumps are so heavy duty. 4x car windscreen washer motors running from a 12v solar panel constantly running during the day, seems such a cost effective solution.

No Wi-Fi on site yet, Alain. It is a commercial grade pressure transducer but it’s at the bottom of the well now so i can’t tell you make or model. Sorry 😣

I've been looking for a while, for getting my well water tested. I can't seem to get a handle on how to get that done. Does anyone have infor on this topic for a person in Vila Nova de Gaia, or Porto, or Viseu?

As far as I know you can take a sample to the analysis clinics and they can send it to the right place.

Love your you tube posts! Have you considered the impact of strong UV/prolonged heat on the wellometer display, inverter and junction box contents? Maybe resite the electronics on the shadier side of the ibc?

That’s an important question. Yes we have. For now, it’s not hot 🥵 but we put it out of sight of the track to begin with. And Dan hasn’t got around to fixing the brackets he made yet either. Even in the shade it can reach 40C here in the hottest part of summer. Thinking caps are on. Thank you for such a great comment. 😊👍
