A point for anyone reading this in future, the d in the formula is the distance between the lines in the grating, the D used to find the angle is the distance from the grating to the screen, same as in the Double Slit experiment - this is why I tend to use L to denote the distance to the screen, due to the clash in letters.

This is nice and all but how in the heck did humanity create precision diffraction gratings to get precision measurements of the wavelengths from? This is a like a catch 22 paradox of science history.

What would the variables be for this?

You could try it with different colour lasers, or perhaps keep the same colour laser and move the screen a different distance away each time.

Can we measure a height of an object using this theory by adding all h1, h2....
@Otaythechug
@Otaythechug 4 жыл бұрын
Abeba k Haile you could just take a angle measuring apparatus and point at the object from ground to get the angle, then measure the ground distance from the apparatus to the object the calculate for height of object using tan. Best for larger objects like buildings.
@christinaholm3789
@christinaholm3789 6 ай бұрын
If you dont have an apparatus, what about just throwing a stone from the roof to calculate the height, however might come with certain false marginals. I know that laser apparatus calculates the time back the laser reflects to it's sensors or something in that area, but then I wonder how does the apparatus prevent the reflection of getting another angle when it for example hits the wall?. Do they put a mirror at the wall or something set to the same angle?, but that might be rather dangerous.
