Thank you for your whole series on physics, it was well presented and you've made it simple to grasp the concepts. Even though it was aimed at A levels. I used it to understand the concepts required for MCAT.

The first 20 seconds gave me a better explanation of why waves diffract when going through a slit, than my teacher could in 2 lessons.

For A-Level pupils in my last job, I built a device that demonstrates De Broglie’s theorem. A laser passes through a diffraction grating creating an array. A motor spins the diffraction grating to produce the rings

The AQA A-level spec also mentions that students should know uses of diffraction gratings - one is xray crystallography, which is used to identify elements. This is also how DNA was discovered (by Watson and Crick, I think)

We did a practical before learning much theory on diffraction gratings, and I'm pleased to say I understood what we did then, having watched this. The switch from Young's equation to this n x wavelength = slit width x sin theta makes all the more sense, and I understand the reciprocal relationship between 'D' (grating) and 'd' (slit width) now. Other useful pointers received from the video, so thank you very much :)

In the interference pattern for a single slit, what do you mean when u say the single slit is double the width of the fringes. And is the central max brighter compared to the double-slit central max?

Theta can only ever be the angle from the 0th order, not an angle between two other orders.

See, thing is we were never told that the equation used assumes a curved screen, which is why I find this topic so confusing, as the usually explanation makes no sense on the scale that we draw it at, and if you try measuring the actual lengths in the diagrams, the maths won’t work out. However on the scale of actual wavelengths of light and slit separation, we can make assumptions and approximations as it makes much less of a difference.
