This video is from the early part of the MTV era. You see both sides of Meat Loaf in this video, his theatrical side from on stage, and his shy persona from off stage. His speaking voice is as gorgeous and as sincere as his singing voice. This guy is truly original as an artist. I can't think of anybody who is theatrical as he is on stage. Love him!

You know, a couple days before his passing, I was up late one night listening to some music and jamming by myself to it. I was randomly selecting a next song and happening to got to this song in particular. I start up the song and pretended to play piano like it does at the beginning. Just getting into the groove. And when Meatloaf started to sing, I lip-sync along, enjoying myself even more. And during all this song and dance, I imagine myself on stage, continuing the lip-sync it like that tv show. I was having a blast just pretending to myself. And then I had a thought of something. From some comment I remember from one of these video uploads of this song. Where in the music video, it's not the waitress that Meatloaf is getting angry about for the truckers taking her attention away from him. But it was actually the pie on the counter that Meatloaf was getting angry about. So during my many repeated lip sync singing, I continued to imagined I was on that stage still, acting like Meatloaf in the music video. Except I replace the waitress with the microphone I'm pretending to sing at. And I'm singing to it all of its love and joy, and then at the part where Meatloaf sings "making love to my best friend," I then imagine a guy from behind the stage coming out of nowhere and starts also singing to the microphone. Almost kissing at it. Where then I started acting all Shock and dejected. like some Vaudeville Act, where I was meek guy and some buff dude took my girl. It was funny to imagine I couldn't stop laughing. But now, after those couple of days before his death. I am now sad(kind of tic off) but mostly sad. It was quite a shock when I found out that morning, finding it out on a random video saying he die at 79. I was utterly shocked. And for some reason now, I can never get his songs out of my head. Even when I listen to the radio and try to sing to something else, my mind always goes back to Meatloaf... I had this same reaction to when David bowie die, I was deeply singing his songs during a shower and I woke up the next morning to find he passed away. And I couldn't stop hearing his music for some either after that. Sorry if you reach the end of this comment kind of confused. I hope didn't make my story sound confusing, I couldn't think of the right wording and such. But I wanted to leave some kind of comment saying both the love and sadness I feel still after his death. So I'm sorry if it all sounds like a rambling mess. My words could be terrible, but I want to release something so anybody could know. I hope you have a nice day to anybody who reaches here...

This is the first song Steinman and Meat ever did together. It was part of a play that Steinman had written, and they met when Meatloaf auditioned for the part. They became fast friends and partners, and the rest is history. Years later they made this particular recording for Meat's second album that never came to fruition when Meatloaf lost his voice for 2 years and was unable to finish the project. Steinman decided to record over several of the tracks with his own voice plus guest singers and released most of the album as his own album (Steinman's first Album). I saw it in the record store in college (1981) and snatched it right up. It would have been as good as Bat out of Hell if Meatloaf had been able to sing it. Still some great music, but sadly Steinman was not a vocalist. I'm glad this video survived all those years waiting for KZbin.

If I had a man look at me that way, I'd make sure he didn't ever want to look away. Miss Meat.

Do you fall in love and sing opera in a gorgeous suit at a truckstop? I confessed my love for Meatloaf years ago and I am still in love with him. I want him to fall in love with me and sing Rock opera while staring at me! I am still in love with Meatloaf!

Arguably the best song on the Dead Ringer album IMO.

Hard to believe the Dead Ringer album is almost 40 years old in 2021. It was released in 1981. That's scary!
