When I was a kid my grandfather had some land where we hunted dove, quail, squirrel, rabbits, deer, coyotes, and rattlesnakes. He had a WWII buddy that was a successful eye surgeon that would come hunt with him a few times a year. Kevin Murphy is a dead ringer for this man who died 35 years ago. Even the same accent. Doc used to even bring beagles along to hunt rabbits. He was a great man. Thank you for making these shows.

Another great episode. I love these where he narrates, gives some back story, they go out and hunt and then they cook up & eat. Additionally, I never knew that this time of year, the female squirrels run off while the males stay put. It makes sense and although I don't know what the final tally was, they did look to be mostly, if not all, males. Also, I'll have to check out that tiger butter sometime.

Same for me. My first memories feeling like a man was when I was set loose to get dinner in the woods. I asked "what do I shoo?t" and he says "anything but a deer or elk or you don't want to eat" Probably not the first time a person wondered... "do I want to eat that crow?" I came back with some berries, nuts, squirrels, a rabbit and a proud smirk. Every kid should have that experience to be able to provide dinner to their family.

HOLY CROW Cottontail tempura!!! I literally just made this the other day, by FAR my favorite way to cook a rabbit. I do it exactly as you did there, remove the back straps and debone the hind quarters, pound out with a tenderizer. I bread mine in panko though, season the flour with various spices. Shallow pan fry, flip when brown, out of the pan and a touch of salt to finish them off while they are still scalding hot. Oh my goodness it's so good.
