Janis brings it back to his roots and heads to Wisconsin with his dad and brother to hunt whitetail. On this self-filmed hunt, Janis takes advantage of less scent and movement to sit over a scrape and wait for a big buck. The rut is in full swing, and with cooler temperatures keeping the action alive, a beautiful Wisconsin whitetail sneaks up right underneath Janis’s stand.

When you said it took you an hour to walk in I started calculating the drag out from my own experience and came up with 4 hours. Doing it in 3 while doing camera work is impressive. I would like to say in 30 years of hunting I have learned to only shoot deer uphill from the road but it never fails, I shoot a deer, turn to look in the direction of the car and there is always a hill between the deer and the car.

A very cruel way to kill a deer. A slow death as compared to a well placed Bullet. I like my hunting (for meat only ) and I can honestly state that every bow hunter that I have ever met has been a self centred excuse for a hunter.
@EthanPageHunter
@EthanPageHunter 2 жыл бұрын
@@lyellclare9365 I am very sorry to hear you have had that perception. I can say without a doubt that its not most bowhunters, and that I also know people that I would share that sentiment towards. Bowhunters by and large are truly the most dedicated and skilled hunters. No one that just wants to aimlessly kill just chooses to shorten their effective range to 30 yards or less. The bow and arrow being one of the ancient hunting tools is an extremely effective way of harvesting animals in a humane manor. If you consider the alternative "natural" death for any animal (which is by predatorisation or sickness) the shot that Janis made was remarkable and very humane for that deer. As hunters a good shot and quick kill should be ALL of our ethos but its not. I know far more Elmer Fudd gun hunters than bow hunters. Dudes that bumble around the woods and kill anything and everything. That is not hunting. I truly believe that MeatEater is an incredible show that encapsulates what it means to be a hunter/conservationist. I am sorry to hear how you feel towards bow hunting and hope one day you meet someone that genuinely loves wildlife as guys like Janis or myself do and use a bow to hunt ethically and do it right. It is also refreshing to see someone life yourself that hunts yet still values the lives of animals. That should be everyone's heart towards hunting thus drive our ethos of taking GOOD shots and knowing our equipment to make a swift death.
@JeremyReger

@@lyellclare9365 I’ve never met a gun hunter that knew as much, cared as much, and took as much time for an ethical shot than a bow hunter.. and I do both but I’ve known more gun hunters to take several shots and more bow hunters who only need one shot..

Bro, I gotta rag you. I'm just watching your 2014 mule deer hunt on Sportsmans Ch today, you remember, where you said you wanted to kill a really big buck you could hang on the wall for people to say, "Man, what a buck". Well, I do seem to remember you killing a real trophy Idaho muley once that any muley hunter would put on the wall, and you just kept the rack and sold the cape. I've killed some big muleys, 3 over 30 inches and one state record non typical with 24 points not counting 4 broken off. Well, dummy, I would have put that buck you sold the cape of on the wall. Love your show. God bless.

Very nice buck and congratulations. For all those who drag a deer out of the woods. Free advice. Take the front legs and put them in the antlers. Use a drag rope around the head/neck. When you lift the front third of the deer comes off the ground. Use for does as well. Even in the dry leaves it is easier to drag out a deer. On Wisconsin!
