It’s really not fair how Steven can make testicle meat look tasty. He’s like “I hate hearing people say how bad road kill skunk is. It gets a bad rap for being stinky when it’s really all in how you cook it” and then proceeds to make it look good.

Another tip my friend taught me years ago, which applies to mule deer and antelope, is to skin the animal quickly, if possible. There is a theory that the hide of antelope and mule deer contains oils which can cause the animal to taste more gamey. I've done this for years, and it really, really works.

It was a large doe and the my grandfather taught me and from my own cooking experience they are great tasting animals. They will very much test a hunters patience and adaptability in a hunt for pronghorn. I missed a few shots on that particular hunt due to the fact I had little experience with long distance shots. Steve, there are so many reasons why I love watching your videos other than just the killing. You actually do education with your hunts. You speak of the territory which you are in. You talk about the beauty of the area. And like today, you look at bones and tell a story about their history. For instance, there were 5 species of antelope at once upon a long, long time ago. You show respect for your area where you camp and hunt. You show respect for the animal that you kill. You care! While you are speaking these truths, I can just image tippees like "cities" everywhere in sections over the plain areas. Buffalos and lots of animals are extinct from overkill due to acts of violence against the Native Americans in these very populated areas. How alive these Plains were populated before the English. What a wonderful life the Native Americans had for so many 1,000s of years before the English took it all away from them. But Steve, You always teach as you hunt. You are a historian and a conservationist in many ways. Thank you for your respect which few hunters show. God Bless.

Your commentary gives some clues as to how others can have better hunts (and outcomes, like don't over look bedded animals 100 yards away, don't assume) Steve, so I do appreciate you sharing it and the show for editing it in. Let's go all the way back to basics, though: your breathing tells me all I need to know about why you missed that shot. You need to control your respiration, and take your shot in the natural pause between breaths. (and if you've never been taught it, your trigger squeeze should be slow 'n steady and the shot itself should always surprise you). Signed: an Army Infantryman taught to shoot by a Marine sniper
