"Two Out of Three Ain't Bad" is my personal favorite, followed closely by "For Cryin' Out Loud". Jim Steinman's lyrical genius can't be denied; and Meatloaf's ability to deliver with great vocals and emotion, is the kind of collaboration that made them legends.Definitely worth the watch!

Great reaction ,guys... Meatloaf was certainly one of the greatest entertainers of our time... His inspiration for his musical performances was somewhat derived from his years as a theatrical writer and performer... When he decided to devote his time to music he turned down a lucrative career in the theater and a $60,000 year job which was a lot of money in the 1970's, but the gamble paid off for him...he put 100 percent of himself in his musical career... He was pretty much the only one at that time doing 3 hour concerts because he wanted to... He was the consummate entertainer and he enjoyed it immensely... His songs will live on forever and he will be so really missed... Thanks again ,guys... Keep being awesome !!!...

It's a love story much like Romeo & Juliet. He's a biker from the wrong side of town in love with a girl on the 'right side' of town. He finally has what he needs so they can both get away and start fresh somewhere else, but he's in such a hurry and thinking about her that he fails to see the curve sign, and the curve, and crashes his motorcycle into a steep gully and lays there dying. Saddest, freshest song to ever come out in the 70's. (BTW, the pianist wrote/arranged all of these songs)

I don't know if anyone's mentioned this about the female singer in the videos. You say that she's not the singer. She wasn't the singer on the album, that was Ellen Foley. But Foley declined to go on the concert tour. So, Karla DeVito, the woman in the video, replaced her for the live concerts, and when they made the video they used concert rehearsal footage. They sound pretty similar. It could be that Karla was trying to sound like Ellen . . . or they hired her because she sounded like Ellen.

Bat out of Hell means ‘with extreme urgency without fear of consequences”. The song (the first song on the album) is about escaping (because “Nothing ever grows in this rotting old hole. And everything is stunted and lost”). BOOH is like 8 one-act plays. One day in the life of the protagonists (a guy & a girl). The first song (late, late nighttime) he’s escaping. The final song (early the next morning) he’s broken, realizing the things he was ever looking for were the things he left behind. The late Jim Steinman wrote all of meatloaf’s songs. What a lyrical genius. What a clever guy he was.

Jim Steinman who wrote the song wanted to write the most extreme crash song of all time ,The song is about a boy who wants to take the girl he loves out of their dead-end town, but dies in the attempt. The crash sound you hear is actually a guitar played by Todd Rundgren. Meat Loaf was the greatest most humble performer IMO of all time, altho he would not agree he was and IS a Legend.

Love Meatloaf , especially ‘em with a hard boiled egg inside. Bat out of Hell was a one of a kind album with so much energy and vocal enthusiasm from Mr. O’Day.One of the reason that is so good is that Todd Rundgren played guitar, keyboards, percussion, and backing vocals. written by Jim Steinman, who wrote many of Meat's songs. The prominence of the keyboards are common in Steinman's productions. Steinman also wrote another strong song in "Total Eclipse of the Heart", which was a big hit for Bonnie Tyler.

THANK YOU, SAM!!!! I've seen other reactions that ask "why does he have to leave", and I'm so glad to see you put together the fact that as much as he likes her, he's not happy where he's at and needs to leave the place they are in. That's what I put together, and I think those first couple of lines often get overlooked. Also, as fun as the video is, find the audio only version. This video cuts the entire intro out, which is absolutely tragic. The intro is amazing, and being the first song on the album, it really sets the stage.

The guy on the motorcycle driving through the graveyard is the spirit of him after his death. He was on his way back from seeing the girl when he was in an accident he said the last thing that he seen was his heart baiting like a bat out. Really have to pay attention to the words in this one. With Meatloaf being in musical theater he does do story telling in his songs. Sadly wr lost him last year after having some back surgeries and then catching covid RIP Meatloaf you are truly missed.
@BlackieNuff Жыл бұрын
_"Meatloaf being in musical theater he does do story telling in his songs."_ Except, they're not _his_ songs... he didn't compose or write any of them, he just performed them - but perform he certainly did - performed like few others did, can, or ever will. Definitely a true showman.
@Debbie-st4nn Жыл бұрын
@BlackieNuff still his songs. Bee Gees and Prince wrote a lot of songs that other people sang and they don't say Prince song that Sinead O'connor sang.
@BlackieNuff Жыл бұрын
@@Debbie-st4nn You're making a very strong claim based on VERY LOOSE semantics. What happens when multiple artists cover the SAME song? Is it ALL "their song"? No. It's only their _performance_ - the SONG still belongs to the one(s) who WROTE and COMPOSED the damn thing. So, in very casual referencing, one can say this is a "Meat Loaf song", but in actuality it is a Jim Steinman song, performed by Meat Loaf. Think of it like actors in a movie ; they might say "my latest movie", but unless they actually wrote, directed and/or produced the damn thing, then it's really NOT ; they only PERFORMED in it. It's fine to say "Jim Carrey's latest movie" or "Meat Loaf's best song"... but don't ignore the artists who MADE those pieces of entertainment possible in the first place. They deserve at least a mention, don't you think? Maybe I am arguing technicalities, but I think they're worth arguing for. Try it this way : If YOU made some great art - and someone else was getting all the credit, praise, and accolades for it simply cos their name and some secondary contributions were made to it, and your name was met with "Debbie who?", would you appreciate that? I doubt it. You may not demand all the same level of attention, but you'd at least want it known that it's YOUR creation ; the "big name" just made it popular.

I enjoyed your reaction. You were right on it to say that watching and listening to Meatloaf is an experience. The total genius behind Meatloaf's BOH album is Todd Rundgren. He paid, wrote and preformed on the LP and engineered/produced the entire thing. He is the one playing those fantastic guitars of the title track. He even invented a special guitar to play the motorcycle sounds. No on wanted to back Meatloaf, so Todd covered the entire project. His goal was to create a Bruce Springsteen parody. (Thus the 1950's gear just like Springsteen). Meatloaf was known because he was in the Broadway production of Rocky Horror Picture Show. They even got members of the East Street band to play on it. Then came the massive law suit. Rundgren took everyone up to Bearsville NY and that is where his Bearsville records came from, as no label would record Meatloaf, so Todd did that himself as well.

The storyline is open to some interpretation but I don't think it's intended to be just a one night stand ("like a sinner, before the gates of heaven, I'll come crawling on back to you"). It's possible that their love is in some way forbidden. Maybe her family is overprotective or it's a Romeo & Juliet type situation, so he has to get away before anyone notices. But he can't stop thinking of her, and this distraction leads to his accident.

Steinman kept whining to Rundgren about getting his motorcycle sound into the song. Rundgren finally caved and Steinman asked hoe they were going to do it. Rundgren said fine. I'll just do it w/ my guitar. So he turned a few knobs on his amp and recorded the "Motorcycle guitar" track and into the solo in 1 take while the band watched w/ slack-jawed amazement during the studio take.
