Fitted a new reduction gear box to the motor, now running at a more realistic speed.

This is one of my 'to be done' projects with my own collection. It appears in the 'Hornby Companions' Super Models book, if you can find one, and one or two parts, such as the flywheels will need adaptation from the original instructions, due to changes in the parts since the 1920s. Its a beutiful piece of work, Mr Steam dragon.

Yes it is fun to build. My challenge was finding the flywheel segments. They were a special order from a company in India. Thanks for the comments 😊

Hi, this was built using the Meccano construction system, brought about by Frank Hornby around 1907. Kits can still be purchased new but not really in the same form or style of the original kits. The plans for this particular model date back to about 1928 IIRC. Whilst this model is large and somewhat complex, it is by nowhere near as large or complicated as some enthusiasts models can get. The scope of the models that can be built is limited only by ones imagination, skill set and number of parts in your kit. New, used and refurbished parts are still readily available online from various Meccano dealers and through popular markets such as eBay. Thanks for your comment and interest.

Hi. What a model. What construction kit is required to build this.

I'm not sure if it was planned for a specific set - the model originally appeared as a 'super model leaflet', in the days before flexible plates were introduced and, possibly before that in the Meccano Magazine.
