@newspaniard I remember getting very frustrated as a child. The scorpion has a double angle strip bolted to the wrong hole. If you don't work out what's wrong the tail actuator jams. On the jumbo crane, the rod linkage to lift the arm is obscured in both diagrams leaving it to guesswork. The other three models are fine however except the counting conveyor is very 'busy' in the picture, but that's just a matter of working it out. P.S. Set 6 won't be available until late April at the earliest.

So, how did you get the steering of the jumbo crane to work. When ever I've built it I've found that the 23a pulley will not fit inside the 11a bracket as shown in the plan. A collar has to be used instead. What was your solution?

I don't remember for sure. it was made eight years ago. I think I forced it by bending the 11a.

I built the Jumbo Crane in the early 1970's and had exactly the same issue...similar to Brian, I had to slightly bend Part 11a. Annoying things like that tend to stick in your mind...plus the other faults covered in this video. However, I eventually got it working.

@jidlomonster Just don't expect too much of it. It doesn't work that well. Using a ratchet wheel instead of the fiddly friction arrangement would help. Other than that the manual is fairly good at showing what to do.

Little late to the party here. If I get set 5, do I have all the parts I need to build these? Or do I need more parts?

And I don’t mean all at the same time, but just each in turn

Yes, but the standard set 5 does not come with motors. There was a 5me which had the power drive unit, but no clockwork motors or the junior power drive
Not 100% sure, but these look like they are from the french Meccano set 5. I think the french ruined Meccano, the models always look crude to me, and have no appeal. today the old Meccano sets are far to expensive, and when looking on Ebay, as to whats on offer, one seems to see a lot of expensive tat, fit for the dustbin, there's currently a immaculate set 9A on Ebay for the sum of nearly £9000, who could justify spending that much, just to stare at it in it's box, unbelievable.

Its not French Meccano. There may be a few French yellow plates in there however. The trick in finding reasonably priced Meccano is to find a cheap dealer. Mike Rhoades is an example.
