@MaverickGaming3 ай бұрын
Because those episodes were about cars that did the thing the guests specialized in; drift guys in videos that featured cars drifting, cops in videos featuring illegal car mods, repo guys in videos about repos. Tristan is in a mechanic video, and he's not a mechanic. Seriously, people watch this show to see mechanic fails and how to properly do it right. If you don't have someone on the show that can deliver that, then you just have a mashup of videos with host reactions.

@@MaverickGaming Okay. So Bob Hall and Steph are experts in failed auto tech inventions is what you're saying. Sandro and Angelina are the go to sages when it comes to any and all international motorsports. Everyone that has been on screen as host is absolutely qualified and knowledgeable about the subject including the RMS hosts themselves (who the majority of aren't qualified auto mechanics) of that video except Tristan....Or maybe due to Donut losing some of their main headlining hosts, they're trying different other auto mechanical content creators (amateurs and pros) to be hosts to see if they can fit into their company. This is really just a growing pains issue and it seems like there's an awful lot of needless gear grinding going on in the back. If you don't like him, you don't like him. That's not that big of a deal, just don't go screaming that we all need to see that you've sh*t yourself over your distress about him showing up on RMS. Besides, do you even realize what Tristan brings to the table? He IS that punk kid who looked up a bunch of KZbin and TikTok videos on how to lower your springs and tried it himself and knows how bad of an idea it is FIRST HAND. He's basically filling in as the new generation poster kid of why you need to listen to the pros. If you don't care for that then find some other way to cope with Gen Alpha crashing multi million dollar vintage vehicles for video likes and then asking for donations later. If they never learn how to care for the nice things then we're just going to lose them all.

I think Tristan would be a good fit for making a video on “home mechanic v. professional mechanic.” Him stating he would use a spray instead of taping off and the other guy replying “but then you have a contaminant” is a great lesson in why something *could* be easy but is different than how a 9-5 mechanic would handle it. Call it “DIY or Pay Up!” Could also be used to show people how to do minor stuff like oil change, fluid check, etc.
@nickkavanagh80943 ай бұрын
And to add to the why all the Tristan hate debate, dude has confidence as well as humility. He tried to tint. He lost, and him admitting it is a little "warning: real mechanic (tinter, wrapper, detailer, body person) shiz ahead .. undertake at own risk!"

That A pillar Rust damage looks like a leaky sunroof drain that was never addressed
@Justin-vr5zn3 ай бұрын
I think that is likely a big part of the problem. It looks like there was physical damage (tree limb falling on the car breaking the windshield and A-pillar seems likely, or maybe a car accident, or idk doesn't matter) but it looks like there is definitely a break in the metal with a couple cracks (it almost looks like the A-pillar isn't even attached) and looks like JB Weld or Bondo or some crap. No matter what's going on, it wasn't fixed properly AND now the sunroof isn't draining properly, the water is getting in the car, making everything 100 times worse or were you thinking the leak caused damage and it was incorrectly repaired?

I'm a professional body man myself. I have no doubt all my lovers would agree. It is all about having the right mindset. You have to give to get. I'm also pretty handy with sheet metal fabrication so if this were my truck at 3:54, I'd be doing some cutting, forming and welding to fix this. That's about $30 worth of offcuts from my local metal shop. Might spend $30 on consumables (would have to make a couple of forms so can't be sure exactly how much) and another $15 on a couple of cans of black primer. But it isn't cost effective to have it done by a shop. You pretty much have to take the tailgate apart and then weld it back up after. But most things can be fixed if you want to spend the time and/or money. I bet I could even save the original latch mechanism. Just have to heat and bend the plastic back into shape because it will have taken a set like that, being exposed to direct sunlight. Same goes for the trim on top. If it is missing a tab, you can just glue or weld another one on. People have gone to far greater lengths to repair a classic. My dad's cousin owns a rare classic Camaro and he went through and hammered out every last little dent in the chrome body trim. My uncle and cousins turned a Tempest that was all rusted out into a Firebird clone. A lot of cutting, hammering and welding went into that. My uncle probably could have paid to have it professionally done but he's a cheap old fart. 12:41 The only reason this 'works' is because of the crumple zone built into the front subframe. And if you use it to bend the frame back into place, you now have a non-functional crumple zone. Or, rather, you have a crumple zone that crumples too easily. IDC how cool it looks, this is not a correct or safe way to fix this kind of damage. You go get a subframe off a car that was hit in the rear and replace the subframe. That is the only way to maintain the structural integrity and crash safety of the vehicle. I've only ever been in one at fault wreck. I rearended an old pickup when traffic backed up unexpectedly while going over a raised bridge. I couldn't see the whole line of traffic, just the pickup that braked late and I ended up running into. didn't help that their center brake light was out and the other two were unusually dim. Fortunately, I was able to bleed off enough speed that the hydraulic bumper absorbed most of the impact. The quarter panels and radiator absorbed the rest. This made for a straightforward and relatively inexpensive repair. I didn't even have a seatbelt bruise and I let go of the wheel and pulled my feet back just before impact so it was all on the belt. Seatbelt pre-tensioners and airbags didn't deploy but you have to be going at least 35mph in my car. Unfortunately, the HDR on my dash cam screwed me on that one. With the lighting violation, it was really only half my fault but apparently insurance companies don't get how HDR works. This is why you should never buy a dashcam with HDR or if you do, make sure it can be disabled and you disable it. 16:38 This is more like blown fiber insulation mixed with glue. I've used it to patch foam core composite panels on commercial aircraft but it is used more like a filler, with pieces of woven fiberglass laid up over it to maintain structural integrity. If anyone is interested in learning more, you can find information about approved composite repairs by referencing AC-43-13 (free, from FAA website), which is a set of books that outline approved practices when repairing or altering an aircraft. The sheet metal repair info, while intended mainly for aluminum alloy, has a lot of information that could be useful in doing sheet metal repairs to cars, such as how to calculate where to put a bend and how to properly patch sheet metal. While mainly referencing riveted construction, a lot of it can be applied to welded repairs. The person patching this wheel arch could have done it properly, without much more effort. At the very least, you should lay up a properly overlapped fiberglas patch, and then apply the fiber fill or Bondo to shape it. Then it won't crack the second someone leans on it. Anyone who knows anything about bad car repairs is going to notice this right away. I'd probably lean on it on purpose if I were looking at this car. Not like they're going to sue over it because then someone is going to be inspecting that car and seeing all the other bad repairs they made. I'd probably do it when getting up after looking over the brakes and making a pantomime of falling and going 'ow, my back'. Let them learn with a little bit of genuine fear over getting sued that their repair methods are going to get them in trouble. Thoroughly impressed when an auto tech knows how to stop-drill a crack.

What's with all the hate on Tristain???? Sandro can't be in EVERY video
@Elmerstudd0073 ай бұрын
Because Tristan feels like the definition of a TikTok mechanic who will claim something as a fact without researching it. The kind of guy who buys all his car parts on Temu, the kind of guy who tries to drift a front wheel drive Prius and blames the car, the kind of guy who pulled up a picture of Ellen DeGeneres in the 90s and said "yeah I want that haircut". Honestly I could keep going all day

My first car had 1/2 of bondo on one fender and a flattend beer bottle as backer on another. Took a lot of hammer work to repair, but it's not bad for a first-timer. I also gained a LOT of experience for later.

@steeljawX3 ай бұрын
He's having to literally be a bit of a tool for RMS/Donut to try to bridge a weird niche gap. He's the poster kid of, "I watched this video on KZbin/TikTok and tried it and it didn't work." and the upcoming generation of kids who are jumping into nice cars, crashing older classics, and really don't understand what they're doing when it comes to cars. Like the whole Bondo filling became a thing because of laziness and no one taught the next generation how to fix things proper. He's there to be the living warning of, "Don't trust what you see on the internet, kids, and don't try this at home." He's basically going to be the "gateway" for a younger audience, hopefully, to learn and, in my own opinion, hopefully even help dispell a lot of online BS like 5 minute crafts that boomers end up falling for because, "I seen it on the TikkyTokers! IT'S REAL, SONNY!" Having both an expert and layman give their perspective on the subject is pretty much how RMS has always done things. Even though they've paired Angie and Sandro, Sandro and Steph, and Steph and Angie all together, one of them tries to take the back seat as host while the other assumes the role of "expert mechanic." Having Tristan isn't a bad thing. It's a different thing, but that doesn't make it bad.

you think the hack job bondo work is wild, you should see the fender replacement on a ranger my uncle did with JB weld metal puddy. its still there 10 years later but I found the concept absolutely hilarious to see him out there with clay working tools fixing rusted out body panels with JB weld.

That last one would be 100% illegal to have on the road over here, no question. Definitely looks like an art installation and if that's the case then you can just strap a big block of zinc to it as an anode for sacrificial corrosion, no rust issues as long as you check and replace it when necessary.
