Your forgetting most have to provide our own tools at 15$ hr and work under 30 hours. that's the starting around me. Tools add up quick even if you go for the amazon special. In easy terms, work at McDonalds get paid 17-20$ hr and you have to provide the spatula, fryer, the knives, the thermometers or timers, the little stuff that's cheap and needed, don't forget the schooling as they don't reimburse around me at all. basically anything that is not food, a table, some cleaning supplies, and a bathroom to get a break. I work at a quick lane your expected to do it fast / less than 30 mins and find all that is wrong with the car and get quotes for the repairs wile doing it your self your suppose to be with some one but your not. I just stick with it as later on in a year if your motived you can make that income easy, if they have the spot if not there are more shops that will.

After 24 years of mechanicing... Most Customers are not willing to pay, this is why salary is low. People pay for what they want, not what they need. This is why you have to pay the doctor BEFORE you go talk to them. I only do industrial work and will never again do retail work

"People pay for what they want not for what they need" 100% in agreement. Forget the brake job fix the a/c so that my kids can be cool when I crash.

Damn right. I'm in low end IT on night shift, in a oddball spot that doesn't have any advancement cause I'm physical layer. racking servers and running cables. 90% of my time is boredom, making sure the building doesn't burn down. so management decided they want something for that time. I get tickets to clean our data center now. its bull, not the IT I signed up for, but for $60k/year I'm onboard.
