How does the principal of this design work tho? The almond shaped "pistons" rock on the concave "crankshaft" but the pressures involved wouldn't allow a tight seal unless there is something internal happening like rods connecting the two that ensure everything is tight despite the pressures
@_miobrot_6032 жыл бұрын
@@jamesgarlick4573 it doesnt use that specific setup. The one in the video replicates the motion well. The one in real life uses 2 separate shafts and oval gears to make the proper motions.

These videos are great, but they'd be better with the names of the mechanisms onscreen. Bookmarks in the description would be even more amazing. It would make looking up additional information easier (examples of use, pros & cons vs. other devices, detailed explanation of operation for less-intuitive mechanisms, etc.)

2:45 This is a type, of centrifugal switch, in some AD motors. Capacitor start and Start windings, begin motor rotation. When up to speed, this switch attached, switches OFF the capacitor start winding, and now the motor operates on the Run winding.

Some of these are certainly more atristic than anything else, but it's still cool to see how they work! Especially the rotating mold thing at 1:09 (yeah I don't know the actual name of it, just what it's purpose is; to make hollow cast items.) EDIT: Its named a roto-caster
@PingSharp8 ай бұрын
No, I could really see myself riding that thing at the fair
@paradiselost99467 ай бұрын
indeed. roto-caster. same as some paint mixers? except that the gear ratios need to be non-hunting... non-factorial. if you watch close it always comes back to the same spot after a revolution. no good. doesnt give proper coverage as its harmonic.

@Dingus_Khaan7 ай бұрын
That really depends on whether it's using the momentum of the arms to spin or if the spinning is powered from below. In the latter case, the arms would be swinging out as it accelerates, and then the weights decelerate it when it is no longer powered.

What does the one with the balls do? I've seen them on old mechanical stuff like mills but not sure what it achieves, or could achieve? I guess "anything you want" that would benefit from lateral movement based on speed, but are there any typical or common examples of use cases?
@sylviedamour78522 жыл бұрын
speed governor, the ring at the low end have to be connected to some power control (typ. a steam valve in a steam engine) thus limiting the speed of a device.
