Ahh yes, good ole "Lifetime Fluds": meaning the lifetime of your vehicle will be drastically reduced if you never change them.

The Industrystandard for a "Lifetime" Oilfilling in an non Servicepart is 180000km after that you are supposed to be a good little capitalist and stop driving the old car and buy a new one. Think about those poor little CEOs they are starving if you continue to drive those old things.

11:26 The Hyundai steering knock: If they are indeed the same as KIA in this way alomg with others, the knock will be from the power steering motor-to-wheel coupler disintegrating. Made of rubber & with 8 spokes, we called it the "spider coupler". As the wheel is turned by the driver, the motor turns to engage assistance & help turn the wheel. The motor & wheel spindles' teeth hit each other as the rubber is all gone.
@hoonfoxКүн бұрын
theres a bolt not very tight from factory that holds the U-joint to the steering column down where it meets the firewall, that comes slightly loose and the steering shaft gets some play and knocks. thats why the wheel moves so freely back and forth

@bcroscros89192 күн бұрын
Well if it comes in knocking the shop has to cover themselves. Engine comes in knocking, you change the oil, then the engine fails, guess who the owner is going to blame. Personally I just tell them we won't work on things like that just to save the headache of taking the blame for them not repairing problems or doing maintenance.

In the 4:51 case it's completely understandable because almost sure engine is bad already so it's to protect the mehanic from damaged engine claim by oil change. I'd just straight deny that customer if they insist on only oil change. I don't want to have troubles. No waivers because later they gonna try to void that too probably.

If you’re wondering how coolant leaks into the transmission, it’s a failed radiator. Radiators tend to have two circuits in them, one for the coolant, the other for the transmission fluid.
@jamesplotkin4674Күн бұрын
I make it a standard upgrade to install a big thermostatically controlled engine oil and transmission fluid coolers to avoid any chance of water contaminating the lube oils.

A good, honest mechanic is like having a good doctor. While I understand it, I hate how it’s so hard to work on modern cars without special tools or computers. I also feel for the mechanics since it can take a long time to find out exactly what the electrical issue is on a modern car.

Maybe it's on a Euro model I'm not familiar with, but Ford doesn't use nonserviceable transfer cases. The ones in the 3.5 Ecoboost Taurus/Explorer/Flex are very difficult to access and usually require the rear catalytic converter to be removed to get to the fill hole, but they can still be serviced. Most likely that the shops they took it to just told them it has "lifetime" fluid because the job is a pain in the ass and likely too expensive for the customer to consider anyway. Or they just wanted the extra profit from replacing the t-case entirely later on
@crlaw752 күн бұрын
I don't trust lifetime fluids.

Clearly most of the cars on this clip needs to be sent to the scrap yard cause they are beyond fixing. Also if the customer is ignoring problems and their fluids are changing color then they should turn in their license cause they are too lazy or get an EV it removes 20-25% of the problems. We have to wonder what kind of clips we will get when self driving cars hit the roads in the near future and when that does happen how many will be of people buying old used cars from the 70s cause they still want to be in control and hear that engine sound they grew up with.

11:22 for the Hyundai steering noise theres a clamp on the steering column down near the pedals that holds the U-joint in place and those aren't very tight from factory, or they come a tiny bit loose, just tighten it and it its good.

2:53 it's not "something" it's probably coolant flow restrictor to make sure coolant go around the block and the head without "dead" spots with no or very reduced flow. It's because same engines could be found in different vehicle applications, FWD, RWD, AWD drives etc. and they have different coolant entrance and exit ports in the engine, different thermostat location, different angle mounting etc. so there's ex. 4 cuts in different corners of the block and placed 2 restrictors in places neccesary to specific application. Also if coolant travel too fast through engine/cooler/turbo it's not always better. Sometimes better results You have with reduced flow. Many times turbos have flow restrictors for coolant and oil and here it's kinda simmilar just for the whole engine. TLDR It's to make sure coolant flow correctly through the engine depending on vehicle application.

We have a very strict laws that we have to follow over here but can someone please tell me all these videos are true representation of how bad Americans neglect maintenance and is the law that slack on having your car tested on a yearly basis to make sure it’s safe and up to legal specification and code can someone please comment from America and let me know if this is really representative of how bad things are or are these just really a few idiots who don’t care and most people look after their cars?

I live in Missouri. Some states still do annual inspections (Missouri, Texas, California, etc), but others (South Dakota, Arkansas, etc) have stopped requiring inspections. In general, issues like a rusted subframe are more common in the states that don't do regular inspections. However, even in states that still do inspections, there are idiots who just keep driving the car until it fails an inspection and/or stops running. In other cases, it's just people that know so little about cars that they don't realize something is dangerously wrong with their car. For example, I have a friend who bought an old Chevrolet Barracuda (a literal barn find), and I helped him fix it up. I started draining the oil and what started coming out was basically black water, because the oil had completely broken down. When I asked the former owner when he last changed the oil, he literally said "It has oil?" as if he literally didn't know that, yes, cars have oil and it needs to be changed at regular intervals. TLDR: It's a combination of things, but mostly it's idiots who don't care, or people that don't know even basic mechanicals. Most people DO look after their cars. Speaking for myself personally, I follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule to the letter.

@@SpearM3064 thank that answers a lot of questions in these videos here in the UK where I live we have to have what’s called in MOT every year to make sure the car is road legal. The only exception to that is a brand-new car straight off the production line. You don’t need one for the first three years then after that every year and if it doesn’t pass, you’re not allowed to drive it and the police will pull you over, confiscate your car and crush it if you drive illegally in the UK

Sadly a lot of cars get this kind of abuse. Too many states use too much salt and people don't prepare and save to keep their cars maintained. I think they should stop using all the salt and let people relearn how to drive in the snow. Its really not hard. Everyone is always in such a hurry and not looking or much caring. Cars are super disposable in the United States sadly, especially by those who can't afford it. The culture because hurry hurry and burn that up with no care to how it works or maintaining it. Its sad. I don't like the idea of someone confiscating a car and crushing it, while an excuse for why there are so few Morris Marina left in the wild, I'm not a fan of. Revoke the registration till fixed or destroyed. If driver gets caught driving it, then fines and confiscate the car.

There is no such thing as non serviceable anything. What it is , is, the maker did not design it to be serviced, HOWEVER, any dedicated mechanic can find a way to get the old oil out and new oil in. It will probably be difficult as hell, like in the Ford PTU, BUT it CAN be done by a mech who is determined to do a good job. !
