Sir this is by far the best video on principal stresses and strain, sir however I have this small doubt regarding plane stres, why do we analyse the stress in a single plane and ignore the other two planes because in real world everything is in 3d, doesn't that affect the calculation if we analyse on a single plane only?

Excellent explanation. Some text books follow angle theta to horizontal plane and we get Sigma n= Sigma x * Sin square theta. Few students byheart these equations and get into trouble
