MW4: Vengeance taught me two things: Pareidolia: the creepy illusion of seeing a face in an inanimate object. The Awesome, Mauler, Uziel, Thor, Loki, and Thanatos both delighted and terrified me as a child for this very reason, with dual insignias painted on their torsos resembling eyes. Even more so than the Sunder and Templar, since I was a bit older when introduced to Black Knight and Mercenaries. Kenopsia: The eerie sensation one feels in a place that should be full of activity, yet is empty and silent. The capital city of Jeteel was a hallmark, with streets empty of traffic, lit only by small street lamps, vanishing into darkness, loomed over by gargantuan skyscrapers with no lights in their windows. Every urban mission was unsettling, and playing them in my family’s basement as a twelve-year-old didn’t help.

I love MechWarrior 4 Vengeance. Very atmospheric and cool game. The design of the mechs, weapons, Lor are gorgeous. It has one of the best cinematics for the game. The trailer is very brutal, it was even a pity for the robot, he got hard on his steel balls a couple of times 3:59 ⚡🤖😆

MW4 was such a great game, from the time when FMV's were the popular thing in games. So cheesy, so great.
@Scorch00173 жыл бұрын
I don't think, that FMV's are the strong suite of MW4. Aside from the Intro there is nothing to write home about, and those talking heads just dragged on the the mission briefings for far too long. Note, that the actor, who played Casey Nolan, doesn't even had a character costume and he appears just in the casual nineties cloths.

I'm not sure if you know this, but there's a way to make the fight against Burke a lot easier. Hidden in one of the corners of the map is a mech repair bay. Use it and you fight him at almost full strength. Additionally, Burke's mech is outfitted with 2 CERPPCs, 1 CLBX10, and an SSRM6, so Reflective Armor is probably best against him if you don't fight him up close. Also, be glad you didn't fight the pre-patch version of William. He had a boatload of CUAC5's, more than the Daishi is supposed to be able to carry (CPU cheats), and would spawn right on top of you. This was patched when Black Knight came out, changing him to Pulse Lasers and a CERPPC configuration.
@Scorch00172 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I knew about that repair bay, just forgot the exact place in this playthrough and decided to go without it. I always found Reactive and Reflective armors too heavy. Generally, I don't like MW4's MechBay, because I can't recreate canonical TT loadouts, like standard Dire Wolf, and have to make annoying compromises either in armor, heatsinks or weaponry. Still, this game have more than enough BS even on Veteran, and on Elite difficulty enemy AI have 100% hit ratio of player's CT, disregarding distance, angle or weapon, and it's bluntly cheating witn LRMs.

@@Scorch0017 Had another thought: in some of the Op 6 missions (the capital city), you might've benefitted from some Flamers, especially when up against Nova Cats. They already overheat quickly, so make it even faster for them and they're sitting ducks. Probably better on one of your lancemates, though.

With all the DLCs and mods, I actually prefer MW5 over MW4. The best one is still MW3 imo especially in terms of being a simulator, but MW4 was a step in the wrong direction even though MW4: Mercenaries is awesome.

Ah yes, MW4. I had mixed feelings about this game, coming as it did after MW3 and the ability to customized your mech mostly how you wanted to. This was the start of the fixed hardpoint system in the Mechwarrior franchise and while I can appreciate the distinction between Omni and Regular mechs they tried to go for, I find the whole practice aggravatingly restrained. Omni-mechs have the ease of swapping gear in a few hours, regulars have to take days to weeks as all the wiring and mounting of the weapons has to take place for each component. They kept the time sink, but made it to where you can only use certain weapons on certain hardpoints. With MW4 they took it a step further and made things like heatsinks and AMS unnecessarily simplified and clunky. The problem is, of course, by the canonical time of MW4 the omni slot was ubiquitous, so only ancient mechs that still hadn't been updated would have been restricted in this way. The designers of this and future games put a lot of work into not doing things right and should have just left the mechbay alone after MW2 and 3, and done away with it in 5 and Battletech. Custom mechs were exceedingly rare in the Succession Wars because the technology and time weren't there to facilitate it. It was practically unheard of until the Clans and Grey Death core revived the finer aspects of the mech-tech profession. Aside from all that, MW4 was an enjoyable experience and I did like it despite the atrocious AI. The storyline was compelling to me and I just had see the next part every time I finished a mission.
@Scorch0017 Жыл бұрын
Mech bay and the ability to customize your machine were one of the selling points of those games, so the devs had to implement them despite contradictions with books and TT. I think, that BT have the best mech bay. It wasn't as restrictive in terms of weapon bays, like in MW5, nore does it make all mechs characterless because of the excessive freedom, like in MW2 and 3.
@TheBeardedFrogSage Жыл бұрын
@@Scorch0017 I guess I can see where you're coming from on that angle. BT could be a bit silly in terms of how restricted some design decisions where, such as left arms having no hardpoints on some of the mechs, or just having the majority of the weapons being on the right side in general. The rest of the customization was excellent, being able to put your heat sinks, ammo, and such where you decided and how much of it within weight limits, even swap out parts and weapons like they do in the technical guides when discussing variants. MW5, however... atrocious is the only word I can use to describe it. It took quite a while for me to understand what they wanted and finally just modded it because I wasn't going to work with such poor mechanics. BT, I could live with as I understood the reasoning behind it, MW4 was fine after I got used to it... MW5 I couldn't tolerate. It made me long for the original game if they were going to more or less give me stock mechs with minimal customization. Add in the tacked on "Time passes" mechanic and I was just not happy with it. GORGEOUS graphics though.
