In actuality, Mr. Zarif is not the foreign minister of Iran in the way that this position is defined in the modern world since the Westphalia Treaty of 1648. In fact his authorities are delineated practically and geographically. In practice, as different from on paper, he is the envoy of Iran to the West, the Europe and the US. In the ME area, the foreign policy of Iran is conducted by military generals on top of them General Qassim Solemani, the head of IRG. I can say positively that Mr. Zarif has no say let along the lead in deciding what and how policies of Iran would be in the region. Just another point. He mentioned that the Arab countries of the Gulf supported Saddam Hussien. Of course, Arab countries of the Gulf and others supported extremism expeditionarily. Let be clear, Iran considers its as missionary state that would continue to do all it can of aggrandizement and attack while "the Hidden Imam" is expected to come back at any moment, possibly he would be spotted all the sudden on a high way outside of Tehran as the former president Najad speculated. All in all, everything is complicated about Iran. The rosy picture that Mr. Zarif, the powerless minister, depicts is anything but the hope of countries in the ME, the West and beyond. BTW, he is right that despite being named as the most merciful and compassionate, God's name is used as a justification to kill but this blame includes his country as well. In islamic Iran anybody opposing the system, not the government which is a face of the system headed by imam khomeini's successor Khameni, is considered "enemy of God" and is hung in public. In the ME you get bad and bad.

But the journalist is asking Zarif about demilitarilizing Hezbollah and Hoothies and there was no answer to this. They asked him when Iran military will pull out from other countries, he said we are already at home in the Persian Gulf. But the question was about Iraq and Syria not the Persian Gulf. Zarif is saying that Iran is safe for investors while Iranian professionals and investors themselves, invest their resources outside of Iran because of the corruption in the system and especially the extorsion they are subjected to by IRGC, judiciary and regime organization and individuals. Foreign investors are worried about the lack of transparency in Iranian banking system and Rouhani can not do anything about it or their money transfer operations to terrorist groups will become known to all. Zarif fails to admit that there is a powerful faction inside the regime who is controlling the moderates by economically feeding and corrupting those who promised reforms! Our economy is literally hijacked by IRGC.The whole situation is preventing Iran to have a trustworthy economic climate. When it comes to democracy, he brags about elections which in reality is nothing but forcing Iranians to choose between the bad and the worse every 2 years and he fails to admit that all political opponents of the regime are eliminated from the political process and the huge example of this is the illegal house arrest of Mirhosein Mousavi without due process who has been prevented to establish any form of contact with the people and his supporters, not mentioning all the secular political factions who were either killed or exiled or imprisoned by the Islamic Republic regime in the past 38 years.

You seem to be missing the difference between states and militia. USA, England, Saudi Arabia, Israel (whether we like it not) are all states and as such have the right and the duty to defend their nations, hence have arms and armies. Militias are not states and operate out of the rule of law. They are to be demilitarized. Both Hezobollah and the Houthis have the right to political participation but not through violence. So the question is: are these groups and their sponsor, Iran, willing to engage in demilitirization of these paramilitary groups? Zarif cunningly avoided to respond.

There are countries like US and Israel who view them as terrorist organization but this is not from UN (And also if you ask why political party has military! I think this is for Lebanese to decide not us). About Houthis there is no hard proof of the Iranians being there or helping other than food. Of course a lot of countries say all they want but they don't give any proof. Saying it is Iranian missile does not cut it.
