Derek Wong discusses his decision to leave medical school after his first year when it did not feel like the right path. He took that summer to do soul-searching to figure what he truly wanted out of life and a career. He opens up about the challenges and revelations he faced during this transformative period, and we discuss what drew him to the medical device field.
His story is one that I hear so often among many pre-med students!
Derek decided he wanted to explore other options that involved health care and patietn interaction. He took to networking to learn about new opportunities. After networking then subsequently spending a day shadowing Matt Abrams, Derek found his calling in the medical device industry and wanted to be in the pacemaker/ICD division. Now thriving in a career that not only aligns with his professional aspirations but also adapts to his personal life, Derek's story is a testament to the power of self-discovery and finding whats right.
