I loved Medabots so much and the weird way that it was mostly jokes and didn't take its own premise seriously was a big part of that. There was an official tournament arc where Mr.Referee wasn't allowed in the stadium

The potential of this IP is astronomical if a company would put the money into it. Imagine a toys-to-life game where you collect the different pieces of the medabots in real life, build them up, and then place them on a stand reader that would place your completed bot into an rpg style game with a smash bros style multiplayer. I would spend too much money on that. :P

@Matt Cantagallo its quite easy until you came across that FREAKING FINAL BOSS!! LIKE WHAT THE HECK?! limited movement?! not to mention they get to move much faster than the normally fast movement configuration ensuring them to charge medaforce 2 turns ahead of you. also they can destroy even tankish leg part in 1 turn (bare in mind the part have a minimum 100 hp). Freaking damage them like butter. If they ever gang up on you (like by chance targetting one medabot in your team)in first turn say goodbye to that bot. no matter how maxed up the hp of your parts, if they did it they can smoke your bot immediately its a freakishly imbalance battle if i ever saw one

I remember learning about the show through randomly finding the 1st DVD with the first 4-5 episodes, it was still the time of early internet so I couldn’t really go beyond those episodes, I specifically remember an episode where Ikky (or how ever you spell that kids name) and the girl with their bots go to this super huge prep school to find some Legendary battler That has never lost that apparently goes there! Everyone at the school knows about them but somehow doesn’t know who they are!? It was weird and ended with the bully kid of that episode’s girlfriend and her Nurse looking Bot being the Legendary battler because she never lost a match because she doesn’t fight. I remember laughing at that. I really want this series to come back now.

I remember it being a thing as soon as I saw the name in the title, but I only ever watched bits and pieces of it because we didn't have any satellite channel that aired it. It did get played over the air but where I grew up was way far from the broadcasting stations so I never watched anything other than the satellite

Fun fact: roughly a year ago, a round april fools day, metabee and rokusho (and a combined form called omedamon) were added to the Digimon ReArise smart phone game in Japan as obtainable rookie level Digimon. So in a way, Metabee and Rokusho are now technically Medabot Digimon.

Medabots was easily my favourite show when I was younger. Loved the heck out of it and still do to this day, honestly. I really should dig up my DVD box and rewatch all of it. The tournament battles at the end of season 1 were lit AF. After watching this video I can safely say Medabots has gotten a much better treatment here in the Netherlands than it has over there.

Medabots was amazing it was huge in Mexico with "tazos" or pogs. You could get them in bags of chips. We would battle by giving our choice of pogs we would bet , then we would shuffle them, Stack them Then use one pog to attack the stack. If we knocked any off we would keep them . It got so intense you could walk away with another kids pogs. It was fun and I miss that inclusion.

The GBA Medabots Metabee game was actually extremely good. I lost my copy so I grabbed a ROM of it years back, and it's one of the few games I played to near-completion (there was a pretty big difficulty spike in the 3rd or so story arc, yes the game had multiple story arcs, that i never really was able to get past)

Rokusho version was terribly RNG-heavy. Metabee also had the comfort of +4 Megalaser or whatever it was called (from the semi-final boss)

@@chainsawpl6189 RNG is what makes Rokusho's game so much more interesting than Metabee's. Metabee: Pro: Shooting has a higher accuracy and allows to see what you're going to hit before you get there. Con: by comparison, very weak right arm and sometimes missiles, likely to fail action if a faster melee unit takes out the target resulting in a wasted turn, Rokusho: Pro: Antenna can increase accuracy as much as you need, hammer literally destroys one medium health part with chain damage Con: can't see target, low hit accuracy on hammer if you don't use the antenna, I grew up playing Metabee on the gba, but I think Rokusho's game is much more fun (which I bought on the Wii U eshop.)

I love medabots to this day. I’m so stoked that I can watch the entire series on KZbin with perfect picture, sound and everything. I wish medabots got a reboot. It would be mind blowing. One time, my parents got me a bunch of tiny medabot toys for Christmas and hung them on the tree before I woke up. It was magical. More Medabots, More Power!

Zoids are still very very popular in Japan. If you go to their Toys’R’Us or any other toy shop, you’re guarantee to see Zoids, Kamen Rider, Gundum, Gridman and Super Sentai. Thing like Dragon Ball action figure are crazy hard to find especially if you’re not looking for the expensive S.H. Fuguart, model kits or statuettes.

I still can't believe they never tried to make actual Medabot like toys, imagine a frame that you can attach whatever parts you want to and AI chips to "use" those parts, then connect them between each other via Wifi or cellphones and have them "battle" each other. It wouldn't even be difficult to upload your build onto something like cellphone app to have battles with people anywhere. They would have non-stop monetization options and completely nail both the action figure and gamer markets... I can't see how no company has jumped on this idea. With today's technology it would be super easy, barely an inconvenience

Because sadly, this is the future of success. No longer could you express your creativity. Instead, everyone are forced to jump on popular trends just to make more money. Just look at the countless isekai and idol animes are (Log Horizon and Zombieland Saga are good though).

I’m pretty sure Metabots wasn’t a straight forward story. It was a spoof of the various battle monster multimedia franchises. You can tell from the dialogue that the English dubbed version definitely was written that way, and that it wasn’t just a straight translation. There’s an episode where someone is trying to track down Ikki, and they mention that his address is 741 Evergreen Terris. (That would be right next door to the Simpson.) It’s a little bit harder to tell in the Japanese version. But the name is a pretty big clue. It’s meta (meaning self referential) and rotten. Again, I’m not entirely sure that’s what they were going for originally, but I’m pretty sure.

I just remember bits and pieces of Medabots. There was some sort of tournament arc, with plenty of kiddish drama going on between every match, along with a better-than-thou side character finding out that "statistically" speaking, he was by far the weakest of the three-man team, and how that just CRUSHED his ego. It was amazing, haha.

In Canada Medabots aired on YTV just around when I got home from school, so I watched it constantly. Sad that it was so hard to watch in the States.

Shaw owns YTV so of course it made it easy for them to air it. They dubbed it so it way easier for them to work it into the schedule. US networks have to pay Shaw money to air it since Shaw was the one who dubbed it.

Now that think about it, Medabots feels like a crossover between Pokemon & Rockman.EXE with a Crayon Shin-chan storyline twist. Didn't really remember the exact plot but I used to look forward to this anime every Sat or Sun in a local TV channel and also played the rpg-like video game because I was a fan. Played for a while since it wasn't translated in English.

Man I haven't heard of Metabots since the early 2000's. I used to love the show and collected the little interchangeable toys. They even had a website dedicated to Metabots in 3D. It was cool (when it worked). Other than that, I remember playing a game boy advance game that I couldn't get through because it was some dumb timing/race thing. But yea, nice memories. I didn't even know Metabots had a card game.

A lot of the clips you used actually had super awesome stylized animation. It made me think to myself 'wow this is super stylish, reminds me of studio trigger!'
