Damn I was 12 when I bought this at Best Buy. I remember the employee telling me “Look, a lot of people have returned or complained about this game because they can’t beat the beach level (D-Day)”. I took that as a challenge. Absolute classic. Chef kiss of a game.

I think I know which part. Where the two MG guns are positioned? I almost added that instead of Brest, but I figured out the fox hole thing within ten minutes.. clearing Brest of snipers took like an hour and I had to take a break out of frustration ahahaha. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this memory, it’s fantastic : ) hope all is well!

You should look into Medal of Honor Underground, it’s a great game. I grew up repeatedly playing MoH Frontline and MoH Rising Sun on my GameCube. It wasn’t until recently that I was keyed into PlayStation 2 consoles having backwards compatibility with PS1 games. This prompted me to go back and play the original Medal of Honor and MoH Underground. Both of them are extremely fun and fill me with nostalgia from the music to the familiar characters and sound effects.

I have to play as Batiste now ahaha. Loved rising sun so much on my GameCube as well! That’s awesome! What’s one of your favorite parts of underground? Hope all is well!

Howdy Folks! Hope this finds you well. Today I'm reviewing Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, a great WW2 shooter with a twist I wasn't expecting! I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences with the game, or another Medal of Honor that you liked more. All the best, Dog Dad

I played this back in the day. I loved the first game. I loved the levels that made you dress up as a German officer. The first game had 2 or 3 levels dedicated to it. This game kept getting my hopes up for a disguise level. They would let you do it for 5 minutes and then blow your cover. This game is better overall, but it didn't let me do the types of levels I loved from the first one. I was so agitated by it that i even wrote a review about it on an old gaming website. Never wrote a review for anything except this game.

Howdy Jes! Thank you so much for writing this, I audibly laughed when I read, "I was so agitated by it that i even wrote a review.." It feels good to get it out! Am I understanding correctly that the first game had even more espionage and was better than this? I was confused because at certain points, I just couldn't stealth, and the gunplay was so much fun, I never really wanted to go full stealth, especially since there wasn't really anything to gain from it. What was your favorite Medal of Honor? Hope this finds you well. All the best, Dog Dad

@Dog.Dad.Studios The first game had a level where you had to dress as a naval officer and sabotage a battleship or submarine. I can't remember which one. You walked around, and the German sailors saluted you. One guard was intelligent and recognized you, so had to get rid of him before he told everyone. It's one of my memories from the first game. I will always like the first game the best. It was just such a great experience. However, I don't know if a modern audience would want to go back to the first game. I guess it's like going back to GTA2. I loved it, but after GTA 3, there was no going back.

@@jes2276 well said, I understand what you mean. I can hope someone implements modern day tech to that kind of gameplay, thank you so much for writing about your memories with such candor and vividness.

Reinstalled it recently when I was on a DDay binge last month, 1st thing I noticed is the weird skybox as mentioned, never remembered that playing on Windows XP. 2nd thing is how hard the game was, granted I became accustomed to playing with more AI companions like the OG COD, BIA, DOD, DOI and even Easy Red 2, that and you cannot aim down the sights which really messes with what I became accustomed to. Played the expansions as well and I have to say that at the time, the Omaha level in MoHAA and the parachute scene in Spearhead were memorable as they were the best and probably the only depictions fps game wise anyway. But was it the best? Probably not but at that time it was the best. The Battle of the Bulge levels were also ok thanks to the popularity of Band of Brothers but was not at par with COD:UO when it was released. Breakthrough had the chance to explore the lesser known and depicted North Africa and Sicily campaign but the expansion turned out to be meh, and also sooner beaten by the COD:BRO. Was the series good? It is. Was it the best? Probably not. Was it iconic? Of course. The same way sports legends in the 50s or 60s are legends but you know that they were surpassed and rendered obsolote in the modern era. But you respected them still. The same goes for this game. Though I will still never forget that MOHAA played a large part in spreading the myth that you cannot reload an M1 rifle unless you expend all bullets. I believe BIA was the first mainstream ww2 shooter to rectify this. For all of my gripes with MoHAA, this is amplified more with Men of Valor which is essentially its spiritual successor. At least MoHAA, there's still nostalgia that I got playing it as an elementary student. MoV however was hard to source out even in pirated form so I was only able to play it recently when i bought it on Steam for a price of a Big Mac, and you know what, I should've gotten the Big Mac. At least you get another topic idea for a future episode. Finally, Medal of Honor Pacific Assault is the GOAT in the MOH series. Story wise, gameplay wise, also has the highest variety of weapons in the series. Seriously underrated as it was already overshadowed by other fps when it was released.

"Odd resolutions"? Is this what you call classic 4:3 resolutions from a time where all monitors were 4:3 and had only 4:3 resolutions, with the exception of 320x200 and 1280x1024, both of which still displayed in a 4:3 aspect ratio because that's what 99.999% of CRTs had? BTW, if you search online you'll find how to run the game in widescreen. You can also use the graphics drivers to force good AA (I'm using 16xS = 2x2 SSAA + 4x SAA) and 16x AF. Anyway, I just beat this game - on Hard, which was a mistake as I found it quite frustrating in the second half. The sniper level was the worst, but other parts were pretty bad too - both when enemies invisible to you keep shooting you, and when infinitely spawning enemies keep coming at you. I near wore out the quicksave & quickload key. Out of curiosity I next started a playthrough on Easy, and sure enough half-way through the game it becomes what Normal should be. I only died once to the Sniper level this time around though. Will be trying the expansions on Normal difficulty later.

This online multiplayer in this game is what started it all for CoD. It was way ahead of it's time and the formula has changed very little since.
