I watched this Man speak. I was in awe listening to Gen Livingston and his description of the battle. Truly a Commander who lead by example. The way he said to leave him behind and he would cover his men's retreat. That truly made me choke up with emotion. Yet his Marines pulled him to safety. Truly such a great man Gen Livingston. Thank you Colin for bringing such great content to the channel. Also thank you Colin for your service as a Sniper in the Marines. May I enquire Colin to your Rank when you finally left the Marine Core? As today is Good Friday Happy Easter to you and yours Colin. 💪🙏🏻✨

It's so great to hear this story. He was always very humble when I worked for him and never discussed his Vietnam stories with us. It was an honor to have served under him. He wthe Commanding General for MCAS Kaneohe Bay Hi at the time and Sgt Major Kellogg (also a Medal of Honor Recipient) was the Base Sgt Major. Watching this brings back great memories and stories from my time working for them both. Thank you. Semper Fidelis!

Enjoyed this longer version. The way the retired General recounted his 3 tours in Vietnam. I found fascinating and truly he was the type of Marine Core Officer others were happy to follow him into battle. I also found the Generals comment on the NVA being A plus soldiers. The honesty about the enemy NVA the General faced. That truly shows what a great Marine he truly is. 💪🏻🙏🏻✨

In April of 75, 4th platoon, D Co., 3rd Amtracs, USMC were preparing for a "float" to the Philippines for manuevers. It was rumored that 4th platoon was chosen because we supposedly had the best platoon commander. We were getting vacinations (including Plague 1 and Plague 2) and classes on what to do and not to do when on leave there. Then Saigon fell in a storm and our cruise was cancelled because the Navy "was holding everything while watching Saigon". Then in May, Marines training in Thailand were thrown into some wore out USAF CH-53 helicopters and they were sent into Koh Tang Island Cambodia in search of the Mayaquez sailors being held hostage by the Kmer Rouge. The sailors were'nt there and a lot of Marines and AF air crew paid with their lives in this effort (the so-called final battle of Vietnam). I would like to know if 4th platoon was part of the plans of the Koh Tang landing and why we were not allowed to continue. It would have given a very strong element to the assault and possibly prevented some of the losses. I wish I could ask General Livinsgston this question. Certainly he would have known. I may never know the answer and have always regretted that we were not sent. Even if uplanned we would have been a short sail away from Koh Tang from the PI's. Cambodia at that time would have been a good reason to vax against the plague. Semper Fi to all before and all who come after.

The Medal of Honor shown next to Cpt. J R Vargas is not the Naval version of the Medal of Honor. I believe the one shown is for the Air Force.

I got the Idea because my Major (can’t remember his name) was a mustang crew chief to operations officer (not pilot). One da an A4 lands, we as refuelers were not allowed to touch the birds (it isn’t Marine Proof), our Major comes our and we ask him where to put the fuel, he then go on to show us and does the refueling himself while telling us the General Bought his Bird from Vietnam and now flys from base to base in it, cool hugh? The best part our major goes on to tell us he was the crew chief on this bird in Vietnam. He went on to check out the bird and give the General a maintenance list. All the while we were in awe, our Major earned our undying respect. MWSS-173 1988-1989, MOS 3534.

Never witnessed anything like this in the service earlier 2000's an officer being modest and and honest probably underselling these events, while giving all of his Men the credit, praise, recognize ever man but himself! Oh well I took an 51 cal. to the leg and by that point the battle was pretty much over for me, that is the kind of men I tried to model myself after shit mouth hope not to f up and hopefully the end of day of he said that I was a solid grunt, couldn't have given me any medals wouldn't meant as much. All the hero's are GHOSTS 👻

I am not disparaging the bravery of these MoH recipients, but they were not alone, the men that followed their orders and were wounded or died. Curious why the majority of MoH recipients are officers?

Well, that's not correct. "For the military service members for whom we have ranks, 77% of Medals of Honor have gone to enlisted personnel; 23% to officers." - Congressional Medal of Honor Society

Man to man It is so injust Children.

@@NoMady688 LOL!

I had the privilege to serve with LtGen Livingston. He was a firm, thoughtful and considerate man, and well grounded. Rumor was he wore a false eye with anEagle, Globe, and Anchor emblem at every Marine Corps ball.

Being a Marine who served directly under General Livingston myself in Hawaii back in the early 90's I can tell you that he NEVER asked any enlisted or officer to do something that he wouldn't do himself no matter what the task was.
