It bothers me some that only 161 thousand Americans have watched this ceremony. So many would rather watch a stupid video of someone's pet doing something silly than pay honor to a man like Murphy. I can't begin to imagine what it was like for he and his 3 fellow soldiers to be in that battle, so far from home. - But I thank them AND their families. What unbelievable men, Thank you for your service and allowing the rest of us to live in peace in the greatest country the world has ever know. RIP

I'm not a father, but I couldn't imagine how proud he must be to receive that award on behalf of his son. I'm sure he would rather have his son by his side.......but this has to be the next best thing. This is the ultimate confirmation that you did your best as a parent......that your son was about something more than himself.......and that he will always be remembered in this country and around the world.

Growing up a Navy brat in Coronado, I routinely witnessed the incredible feats of physical endurance and stamina on the beach and in the water during BUDS. But it is the mental ability to separate physical pain and push on that makes these guys so very unique. As I grew, I was befriended by some of these extraordinary men and later was privileged to eventually work with them as a member of AFSOC/SOCOM. These men, along with the guys from Ft. Bragg, are the best we can ever hope to be, by a very wide margin….
@DB-236 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. David Goggins talks about BUD/S in his book and how it's not about being the best athlete. It's about who can separate their mind from pain and keep moving. They are the hardest men on planet earth by a long margin.

I saw that to, it's an honor for both the recipient and the Commander-in-Chief to do this ceremony, but giving to the family of the recipient must be hard on both Bush and Murphy's family, knowing he isn't there with them, but watching from heaven, wising his family luck in the years to come, same with his fellow Seals still fighting to this day.

Not to be that kind of shithead, and while it doesn't apply to this award, he probably feels bad for sending our men to fight in Iraq. Every serviceman who died in Iraq, is on his mind, because he (and even more so, his cabinet members) lied us into the Iraq War. I've always felt that Bush was given bad advice by Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and others......but he ultimately made the decision. I put Bush and Colin Powell in the same group. I don't think that either of them lied intentionally......I KNOW that Powell had reservations about the bad intel that was given to him but when he asked about it, he was ASSURED by other high ranking officials that it was REAL. So while Bush and Powell don't get a free ride, I hold others accountable for their lies. Without the Iraq lies, thing in Afghanistan may have come to a different end. We pulled a lot of men and a lot of equipment and political pressure from Afghanistan that could have played a major role in the outcome of that war theater.

There was a story where a man ordered a beer to be set out for Murphy, memorial name tag and all. He also ordered that a beer would be given to a random patron every hour. When that patron asks who got him the beer the bartender would say Lieutenant Mike Murphy. When the man told the bartender this story the bartender did it for free. He had Afghanistan Veterans working with him and they wouldn't take a cent.

I swear to you Murph, you did not live for us in vain, and your brothers who fell with you, did not die in vain. You saved more lives than you realize. You have inspired me to take courage and to remember you in my hour of trial. In the halls of the brave we shall speak to one another, until then, I will Murph on, as only half the man you were but a better man than I was. I thank you Marcus, for everything sir, but mostly, for remembering and sharing the memory of your friend and brother our, my, hero. It I am sure is the most difficult task you have faced yet, this surviving your friend so as to tell us of bravery and courage and hope. It is an eye opener to say the least.
