Funny enough despite being only 20 and from the "digital age", because I grew up in a rural part of India, my experiences are so similar with Ahmed. We didn't have high speed internet until 15, we used to roam around in the fields playing Cricket and badminton all day... I can not imagine what kind of a person I would be if there was internet while growing up.

Love love loved this. I'm one of those digital age kids you talked about (I'm 21 just barely, so it's not as extreme as those that are really young right now and won't ever experience flip phones and landlines, only finding social media in middle/high school like I did) and I've been posting my art regularly on the internet since I was around 13-- up until summer of 2020, when that Pandemic Depression TM hit. I still use social media, but I stopped posting my own things. I've found that I'm so much kinder on myself and my art with that separation. I even recently found that seeing an artist's work whose art is gorgeous and drove me insane with jealousy through high school no longer brings that jealousy factor. Said artist totally deserves the praise they get, they've worked so hard for so long. But with them being the same age as me and having done professional things even before college, it just totally ruined their art for me for a long time. Taking my break-- drastically cutting down on social media usage as a whole, and not putting my own work into that whirlwind dome-- that step back really helped me. I do want to go back to posting eventually, but I'm rather content to stay chill in my own space for now and that's nice. I'll definitely be visiting this video again in the future for this pep talk. Thank you for this.

Oh man. This is great. Just watched the Lightbox video where you and Sinix talk about personal art journeys, and the challenges of social media. Watching that and now this, I feel seen, honestly. The pressure to make art that’s “perfect” for social media so you’re not criticized is something I struggle with too. But it’s also lonely not sharing art at all. Idk. It’s a balance. A hard one, I guess. Thanks for your insight. You make wonderful work.

A few weeks ago I deleted all social media apps from my phone, including tweeter, Instagram, reddit and youtube. Now, anytime I feel the urge to grab my phone for easy entertainment, I realise that I deleted literally anything that could be classified as entertainment and put it back down. Now, I check youtube and Instagram only when I am on my PC and don't spend more than 20-30 minutes a day on them. I feel so much more at peace now, thanks to You, Steven and Vsauce's latest video about time. Thank you for making these videos.

I love his channel because I share the same disposition. I mainly subscribed because of what he says at the end of every video 'thank you for drawing' it was simple but so effective for motivation. It was like a light went on. I've been leaving social media more and more just to focus on my own growth weirdly the idea came from a documentary on Francis Bacon. One of the people in it said he went away from 20 years and came back an artist' I didn't want to take it that extreme but it did get my wheels turning. My notifications have been off for about a year now and I feel more free. I dont hate social media but more of a complex relationship. Anyway love this talk and Steve. I'm glad your both on this platform.

Hey man, every time I sit down and listen to and look at your stuff, I feel that you are my best friend besides me, just living the moment. It is so good that I feel like normal person, not searching for anything, just being in the here and now. I love you, as simple as that.

yo i been watching fit to fat to fit too this last week!!!!! such a cool show to go beyond the simple aspect of "hey diet and exercise and you can lose weight". I love it because a lot of the trainers make self-realizations that there's more to life than being shredded and how their relationships improve with friends and family when they're able to relax and let loose a bit with food and exercise. I try to channel what they go through with my own art journey like trying to be more disciplined etc. Great video as always!!

If you're stuck for something to draw/paint, I would recommend master copies but only using a hard round brush - so no transparency, no rubbing out and no colour picking. It's not easy but oh so satisfying when they start to resolve. I've done over a hundred this current lockdown and I've always got one on the go in case I don't feel like doing some other type of painting or drawing.
