Good stuff. Dr. Seheult here at his best. I used your EKG training courses back when I was diagnosed with irreversible dilated cardiomyopathy and an inverted T wave. The information was invaluable. I was able to reverse it all, and today have normal cardiac function and normal sinus rhythm. :)

Thank you so much! I did not know muscle breakdown could cause high potassium. This is alarming that a person was sick with a virus and had this happen. The heart is a muscle. Love this explanation. Thanks again.

WOW! Your side story about the patient whose potassium levels almost caused a crash, but was lucky enough for it to occur when you just happened to stop by was amazing! Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Kudos to you, Dr Seheult! I also enjoyed the rest of the video. Keep up the great work!

Very interesting case history Doc! It always amazes me at how rapidly an intravenous injection can work to stabilize & improve an otherwise serious metabolic condition. Hope that all is well on your end! 👍👍

I went into full arrest immediately after I was loaded into the ambulance and got beat up really, really bad for over 40 minutes after I was delivered to the hospital. I don't remember anything, I only know what the doctors and first responders told me. One doctor said maybe one person out of 300,000 would live through that. Sounds to me like I died around the right people at the right time.

A fascinating glimpse into some of the memory items that are a part of your ER work Dr. Seheult! This feels quite similar to the world of aviation. I've watched impressive examples thereof in the outstanding accident analyses produced by @MentourPilot on his channel (www.youtube.com/@MentourPilot. *Highly* recommended.)

Next: Hypokalemia when nurses keep administering salbutamol/Ventolin until the patient needs a potassium drip... Fortunately someone was paying attention to those hourly bloods.

Great timing. I just had labs last week and potassium was mildly elevated, but she had trouble getting blood out of my veins and had to stick me three times and use a butterfly and still wasn't sure she got enough blood, so maybe it's pseudohyperkalemia. Not sure if that would correlate with subclinically low TSH. I have had muscle pain and weakness and fatigue off and on over the last year and rheumatology thinks it's Fibromyalgia (even though it started after I had Covid). Will redo labs in a month

I have a question that is loosely related: I'm a neurolinguist that often conduct EEG experiments. I often notice in overweight participants a heart beat signal (QRS complex) on the two mastoid electrode sites (the bone behind the ears). People with normal BMI would not exhibit this signal on their mastoid sites. What could explain this phenomenon? I checked the literature, but couldn't find any answer. Thank you.

I had elevated t waves and they made me take the test 2x.. Then they sent me to a heart specialist who did his tests. In , he shook my hand and said I had a 20-year-old heart in a 50-year-old body. Martial arts and running can be blamed for this abnormality.

I stated having this acid reflux symptoms like five months ago. I’ve been on omeprazole and also pantoprazole. They seems to be helpful but not really working as well. I got an endoscopy and my esophagus was inflamed. I’ve been so stressed out and can’t really enjoy life. I always have like a sour taste in my mouth. After I eat something I have to chew antacid pills like tums to makes me feel relieved. I always have this itchy throat and constantly coughing up phlegm. I’ve been eating slow and seems like it was helpful someway. I don’t really know what to do anymore except strict on my diet.

What are the clinical signs of hyperkalemia? My husband was on hemodialysis, and the night before his next treatment, he said to me he felt the need to have a bowel movement, so he went to the bathroom, called out to me he would need a roll of TP. So after about 5 minutes i brought it to him. I found him unconscious on the toilet. I did CPR on him for about 20 minutes until EMS got there. But he could not be revived. He was 69 and had been under the care of doctors for 30 of those years. Never diagnosed with a heart problem. Just a few hours before, he had eaten a very large portion of watermelon. I've always wondered if that could have caused him to have die from hyperkalemia?

What does it indicate about my body that watch batteries die on me within about 6 months? Most people can go 2 or 3 years without replacing them. Is something wrong with my electrical system in my body?
@Bob_Adkins
@Bob_Adkins 5 ай бұрын
Minute voltages and currents in your body cannot have an effect on a watch, and there's no reason for a battery running down faster on certain individuals. Some batteries aren't fresh when you get them. Most have a manufacturing date, so check that and buy the freshest you can find. Battery brand, temperature, and the watch itself could also be factors.

@Bob_Adkins I appreciate your response. I just go to the jewelry counter and they change it for me. Same place my husband went to change his. There are apparently many others who have this problem too, as I found in my online search. But nobody seems to know why.

I'm debating whether I should supplement with potassium to help my sleep quality. One time when i drank 10 coconuts in one sitting I took an incredible nap afterwards. I'm thinking it was the potassium? I need something to help my insomnia

I would be careful supplementing with potassium. You’d want to coordinate that with your physician. I don’t know if any evidence that potassium supplementation improves sleep.

Maybe it was the high dosage of saturated fat from the coconut water. I'll try butter to see if it helps with sleep. If it doesn't I'll ask my doctor about the potassium. Thank you for the warning. @@Medcram
