I always liked Sass, but I also felt that her great shortcoming was that mushy diction, which always sounded like she was singing with mashed potatoes in her mouth. In roles like this, you need to be able to spit out the word (just listen to the tenor) rather than playing the "find the consonant" game. Listen to any Callas performance of this, and you could take dictation from it.
